Let us know all the details, we may be able to suggest help and / or cheaper fixes that the garage suggest?

The emission is based on a £50 bosch Lambda sensor, new btb 8v manifold, £50 new BM catalysts converter. Premium engine oil, new spark plugs, oil and fuel filter, Standard air filter with a replaced air filter. The mechanic said a few air feeds are missing which is blowing air out making reading go high?

Wheel bolts were cut down slightly to fit onto spacers but used same bolts for normal wheels and dont go all the way through hub so need to use normal saxo bolts for normal wheels.

Wires in engine by need to be tied up secure not loose new MOT check came in the summer, same with the boot

Airbag problem they may be able to fix as it was from the crash i had 2 year ago.

Both front wheels needs switching over as their on the wrong side for rotation?

Rear axle the mechanic suggests is shot all the way through even though they see play on nearside arm. Bearing and bushes? Common saxo fault?

Are you going to bother fixing it?

Morgiee
9th December 2013, 20:58
is it worth it?

Im stuck need a car for work. MOT up on the 22nd of this month, car insurance renewal on the 23rd. Wanted to get it through the MOT to sell in the new year and get a Honda Civic Coupe VTEC. But it doesn't look possible now :( :(

Nope mate, pick up a cheapy with 6mths mot, then sell on when your ready to buy something better.

If the faults are genuine, I wouldn't bother.

Morgiee

I have decided to go ahead with the repairs but it was a long hard decision but have valid reasons. So far the below faults are sorted:

lights
wheels
Fixing bolts
wiring now secure
replacement axle ordered in garage and ready to fit
Lambda reading within limit

Faults still to fix:

Airbags
CO Emissions

The problem is the mechanic is really struggling to get it anywhere near. He said its running too rich. However it has newish spark plugs, new BM CAT, New btb manifold, newish airfilter (but clean), cleaned out ducting and oil breather pipes, newish oil (did in January), fuel filter, oil filter, throttle body cleaned out and ran redex through the system.

What other faults could cause the CO reading to be high and make the engine run rich?

Thanks

I would have thought the air bag light is an advisory it was on my last MOT, a little strange but hope you get it sorted soon.

I thought airbag light was a fail now but I know its a fairly new thing, as airbag light on means no airbags which means its not safe so should fail, just take dash apart, some tape over it and jobs a good un! Itll pass then :) My old M14 VTR passed with tape over the EML and airbag light as they dont know any different!

Lights supposed to come on and go out as it should for the MOT, so if you put tape over it can't come on. Depends how stringent your tester is though.

The one I go to is a mate of mine so he will pass it, he told me to sell my corsa I had because it wouldnt pass anouther MOT because the arches needed welding for it to pass.

Mine has started playing up a bit now and again. I've noticed when the weather is really cold (frost on windscreen), sometimes the airbag light doesn't go out. Yet later on, if I start the engine again, it'll come on with the ignition , then go out after a few seconds. Just hope it's not bloody freezing when I take it for the MOT.

For the emissions test, stick some forte fuel additive in yer tank, give it a good thrash, and it might bring it down, you have to get saxo's really hot to pass the emissions test, lambda reading though is usually high when the exhaust is leaking (but surely the tester would have picked up on that, easy test, when exhaust ain't hot, cover the exhaust when the cars running and see if there's any pressure on your hand) if lambda sensor is faulty then it's usually a low lambda reading, if that dont work then worst case scenario is a new cat to bring co2 down. The airbag light must come on when the ignition is turned on and go out after a certain time (similar test to abs light if your car has it) if it was mine, I'd have the radius arm off, check the condition of the stub pin, if good then £30 for new bearings and stick it all together! (:

She is all fixed, The main cause of the emission problem was the CAT. So here comes one angry customer to Andrew Page for miss selling a catalyst that was claimed to be the best for this vehicle.

Airbag issue was a faulty squib which has now been replaced and fault codes reset.

The replacement axle is on but at standard hight so its going to look wired until i get round to re lowering the rear of the vehicle.

Just though id update you all.

If i had known this was possible it would save me an axle and having to re lower it :wall: Thanks for your input though its food for thought for next time.

If there is play in the arms, is long gone past saving.

when you re lower it I would take the arms off completely and fit new bearings before you reassemble it at the desired height.
