After searching for an mx5 for a few months and payday in just 1 day i've found this little beauty. First off it didn't sell on Ebay but mailed the guy and arranged a view.

Car was in good condition with the usual stone chips here and there. Sills are good, slight rust on the arches but not enough to worry about at this point in time. Old licence plate holes and a small spot of rust on the front drivers arch near the bumper, again, something i can fix at home. Car had been sitting for a month or so and had a little mold near the rear window and boot floor.
The clutch is going however it's still driveable and comes with a replacement of which will be getting fitted on 4th.

The car has:-
Rota kyusha alloys with proxies t1r
12months mot with 1 advisory - too low!
JVC head unit and speakers with sound deadening
Recent oil change and k&n filter
Induction kit
Catback chrome exhaust
New break disc
Vinyl leather look replacement soft top

To start with i'm going to give it a nice clean and poke around so the dreaded rust under the car, then wirebrush and underseal it ready for this winter. I'm gonna have to raise the car a little bit due to speed bumps around me and at college.

Comments and suggestions welcome:

Merry Christmas all, hope you all had a good Christmas!
*
Again today was no weather to be jacking up the car and faffing with the hight In between the showers so I got on with the rest that was on my list. First off was clean them drain holes! Nice and easy job and something I'll be doing very often from now on.
*
Got a nice new jet wash or crimbo so had to use it! Also got some turtle wax diturgent a new shammy, polish and a machine polisher.
*
After jetwashing the car my mum can out and gave me a hand with cleaning the inside of the doors and sills. Pulled up the carpet in the boot and cleaned all that too. Some may notice the black mark on the drivers door, seems like it was a scuff but I have gotten that out with the polish. I done a quick polish tonight but didn't he any pictures as I'm going away for a few days tomoz and it's just to help keep the elements away.
*
Still need to get under my car and check for damage plus underseal. I also found my aerial unplugged and got excited watching it go up and down. When the cars off it don't go all the way down though. You need oust the rest, any ideas?

I went off to London for a few days and came back today mid day. after about 15 minutes of being home i headed out side and put up a gazebo next to our garage, jacked the car up and started a clutch change with a good friend! As the car stands tonight, the box is virtually off just need to fit the new clutch and put it all back together, should be sorted by tomorrow!

Picture of the coilovers, they were pretty low when i got them which explains why i scraped so bad getting onto my drive!

Looks awesome mate, i'd replace that fuel cap though, and maybe some fresh wheels? Looks good though!

Fuel cap is just a sticker, it's been done on the central console as well so yes i think it will be coming off. Just getting it on the road is the first thing, its all in insured but with a gearbox on the floor till the morning lol

Last night i went drifting at our local track. It was the first time i've ever been on a track and the first time i ever attempted to drift. First time i went out i just drove around the track to get use to it and then on the 2nd 3rd i was doing little clutch kicks and getting a feel for it. half way through the evening i was getting more confident and having so much fun. I was so impressed of how much i learnt and how well i was actually doing. I hit a pothole and rolled a rear tyre off and that was me out for the night as i only have 1 set of 15" wheels

A very kind girl who was also drifting lent me a set of her 14" which allowed me back on the track. Mini_Matt was on the track with me and at one point was infront of me. I took one of his driving lines and aced the corner. By the end of the night it all became natural and done some really solid runs.

I may have a few videos that i can put up later if they are any good. Depending on if i can sort my wheel situation out and find the entrance fee/petrol money ill be there next session and ill try and get some good videos/pictures

Good lad, it's amazing how much you learn on an action day.

Car's looking smart too, I'd be tempted to whack a GV lip on it to finish off the front end and maybe some more aggressive wheels but it's all looking great as it is.

Any questions feel free to ask, I've took mine apart so many times I could write a manual lol.

Ta.

Cheers mate. Yeahh i've been thinking of a splitter of some sort. Only thing i'm curiouse about is when i'm drifting and i start redlining. I try not to redline as much as i can and when i come off the track give the car enough time to cool down a bit before i go back on. When i'm on the track i have the heaters on as well. Am i doing everything right or is there anything i'm missing?

Nothing wrong with that really, however you might find the car is more controllable lower in the rev range (it should still spin up). If you're worried about it overheating there's always the Aluminium rad as sold by Mx5Dan on the nutz forum? Seems to keep temps down. However the standard system doesn't normally cause major headaches.

But you're doing the right thing with having the heaters on yep.

Looks really smart this :) I'm sure it'll be well looked after after seeing your saxo thread. Makes me want to get rid of my saxo and get something better now :( lol

Update:

Last wednesday i went to matchams and had an awful time. I couldn't get the right tyre pressure and was trying to hard each time which made it even harder specially on an open diff. I have a few good runs but that was it really. By the end of the night i started using my hand break to enter corners and get more angle but again, didn't achieve much.

On matchams night we had a marshall come round and tell us we are not allowed back on the track after today if we didn't have a roll bar, tough but fair enough. Payday hit and i went straight online and ordered a 5Race roll bar which should be arriving tomorrow.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/cage_zps0e2d44a8.jpg

I then went onto ebay and got myself a nice Corbeau Forza sport 2000 bucket for £50 and a harness from Mini_matt that should also be arriving tomorrow. (The wet patch is because it was in the back of a compact with 8 alloys that was left outside)

Today i went to remove my diff and have it welded. Doing a big job on my own i was nerves but keen. I managed to remove the prop, shafs and main mouting bolts to the diff however failed at the last hurdle. For the life of me i could not undo the remaining 4 12mm bolts. A ton of GT86 and it didnt budge. as i was running out of light and had college the next day i had to grit my teeth and call defeat. I'm going to go to a garage and get them cranked off and try again on sunday.

Update:

Few nice little updates here, first of all i went and fitted my roll bar, it's all fitted nicely however i still need to cut down the metal plate in order to refit the carpet, something that i will do when i can be botherd.. why? Because drift car.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/IMG_20140210_232110_zps2epoenjy.jpg

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/IMG_20140210_232141_zpssd1uxwat.jpg

I then managed to get my diff welded and now see that it really isnt as bad as people made it out to be, infact since running a welded diff i've not had any problems with it being 'backend happy.' The only way i can see it coming out by accident is if you drive like a dick. These are the bolts that i couldn't get off on the first attempt..

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/20140205_162944_zpsaaxeeutw.jpg

Today as it was wet and miserable outside i decided to de-tango my lights. First off they got a little clean up and chucked in the oven for 10minutes
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/lightsbefore_zpsd0ee8daa.jpg

Once they were out i had to prie the lenses from the case without getting the glue on the inside.
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/lightslense_zpsc2684a84.jpg

when the two parts are off the tango bits are held in by two screws then simply unscrew. I then cleaned the inside up with alcohol to make sure it's nice and clean
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/lightsorangeout_zps3aa81329.jpg

Then i put it back in the oven for a few minutes to get the glue tacky again and stuck them back together. A good t-cut and buff and they came up a treat!
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/lightsfinished_zps470a0b14.jpg

Cars getting a good clean and shine tomoz so i will get some decent pictures up.

Not much of an update really apart from just doing the forknightly drifting at my local track. I've learnt quite a bit and constantly progressing. Here are a few photos from a photographer that was on the track, big thanks to him!

So a big update is required!

Drifting has become more seriouse. I attend every available event that i can and gone from going through say 4 wheels in 3 sessions or so now to 6 every time!

I installed a hydro because i could and it was cheap enough. It was strange using it for the first few sessions but now can say i know how to use it in a number of ways such as shedding speed, correction and linking into another corner.

I could not be bothered to sit down for ages and design a bracket so i decided to attach it straight to gear box tunnel. Here are the photos from that.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/20140428_195308_zpsafaf5b6a.jpg

I also installed sleepy eye mod i made my self, not many pictures of that though. Next thing i did was installed a snap off Standards boss and tow strap: http://www.lowstandards.co.uk/

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff431/YSSGraphics/Mx5/20140516_095842_zpsc8dd6787.jpg

In one of my drift days i managed to snap a wheel stud, so i change that over and using odd bolts for now untill i get some fancy ones from lowstandards in a few weeks.

No it's just the standard breaks from the 1.8 as they are much bigger
