Well after having the car for a day the Powerflow exhaust just wasn’t doing it for me so off it came and on went the Inox.

Over the last couple of days I have been busy stripping the old car and getting it ready for going on and into the new car.

Then me and my mate took it all down the where the magic will happen.

So as the little pikeys decided to help themselves to parts off my car they took the locking wheel nut key but not the wheel nuts. Thanks! So today I have been getting the wheels off the beam and struts, got the engine on the engine stand and gave it a good clean and it will get another clean tomorrow, dewipered the boot.

Got the wheels off and stripped the struts to find the shocks are knackered. Doesn’t surprise me to be honest.

Yeah got off pretty lucky to be fair. Loads more progress today but couldn't be arsed to write it up. Got it lowered. Engines coming out tomorrow and the cammed JP4S lump going in :)

So the last couple of days have brought a fair bit! The car is now lowered and the cammed JP4S engine is in and running.
Yesterday was the lowering . As I already have a lowered rear beam from the old car it was just a case of a change as I hate lowering these!

I found a bit of rust bubbling in the rear arch.

The beam came off and the new one went on.

Then it was time to do the fronts. As the Apex shocks blew in the crash I’m using standard shocks for now. Put the braided hoses on too.

Yeah it did. Got a pic of the underneath today as I needed a handbrake cable off of it so we rolled it on its side. The car is done now just need time to write it all up! Yeah I'm glad I did walk away it beats being in a wheel chair lol

So when I went back Friday morning I got the car back down on the ground and it sat nice. I didn’t drive it though so didn’t realize the awaiting problem of being too low on 16’s! Lol. This is how she sat.

I then started stripping down the front to take the engine out. The engine is the original J4 engine on 120k. As I took the bumper off I noticed the bumper supports have rotted away. Not a problem though.

Chucked a Baker BM quickshift in (I find these work well with the Compbrake quickshift)

Then the engine and gearbox went in, connected it all up and got it running.

I'll just drill the spot welds out and weld new ones back in. Engine bay should hopefully be being stripped in a months time and we will be painting it along with the few other marks there are on the car.

Well Saturday was a bit of a quiet day. Most of the hard work was done. It was just a matter of tidying bits up, bleeding the brakes, filling engine and gearbox with oil, bleeding the cooling system and putting it back together.

Then George popped up in his and I ended up making him a wiring loom for his rear lights as his was a major mess so got a pic of the 3 together in the unit.

Then came the problem of finding out the wheels were too big. Luckily Craig had a spare set up at his place so we left the wheels until tomorrow and put the Omex limiter on. The launch control is shit! I just like the fast cut limiter. Lol

Sunday brought us pretty much to a finish. There’s still a bit to do but I’ve got it to where I want it for Lydden Hill this Saturday.
So we started with the bracket for the catch tank. As the car came with the standard airbox I used that bracket.

Then drilled the spot welds out and separated the piece of it that’s not needed.

Next was to install the Compbrake quickshift. So took out the standard gear stick surround.

Then replaced it with the Compbrake.

We then went up to Craig’s unit to get the spare wheels and get the handbrake cables off the other car. We turned her on her side. So got some pics of the damage under the car :(

Then Craig set to work fitting the handbrake cables whilst I stood around and took a pic.

We sat her down on the wheels and I took it for a quick drive. All was working fine which is great!

Then it was just niggly bits. The mirror needed replacing which was bugging me. The rear bumper and rear passenger arch are also to be replaced after Saturday.

Then for the finishing touch to the bonnet I put on some boot struts as I prefer the bonnet opening less.

Then it was time for a quick wash in the rain as she was filthy. She needs a good detail but that will come in time along with some paintwork touches.

Due to the typical leaking problem with these things that I have I’ve stripped the car and found the leak. It’s coming through the rear lights and in through the boot hinge area on the passenger side :confused: I will get onto that once the weather warms up a bit. So as it was wet inside was a good reason to strip the car :)

Somewhere in the past few weeks I’ve picked up an alloy C2 VTS inlet. Took it apart and had a mess around with it to work out how I’m going to get it to work, what I need etc.
I’ve pretty much worked all that out now so when I remember to buy the plate I’ll make an adaptor plate for it as the C2’s use an electric throttle body and the 106’s are cable.

Then I bolted it on just to see what my options were. The buttlerfly doesn’t open when bolted on like this that’s why I need to make a plate.

Then set about working out how to hold the cable onto the inlet to give the cable the tension in needs to work.

With all the bad weather we have been having I risked a puddle. That ended up being a lake! As a result, my mani cracked :( Luckily the next day Craig was free and he welded it up for me :) lol

Last weekend I took the car to Lydden Hill to test it out see how she handled. As the car is I am very happy with it! Handled nicely, chased down a lot of the others on track at the same time as me and was also a lot of fun. I don’t have many pics but here’s what I have.

Then I made it back to the bottom of my road and my driveshaft shot out through my tyre. So pretty lucky and it was in interesting drive home with the driveshaft on its way out. The alternator belt snapped on my 3rd session leaving me with nothing but still got one last session in then Webby took me to his to pick up a spare. Cheers mate :) Lol

I got them running on the standard ECU but obviously on the look out for an ECU. Don’t know what I’m after though. But they sound AWESOME!!! :D

Along with starting the Morettes which became a right ball ache! Had a reaction that kept happening then the plastic went all weird. But eventually I got them done too.

The Morettes took a good rubbing down back to bare plastic and started again. Eventually got them done. I tinted the indicator and main beam lenses too and put mesh in the inner lamp holes rather than just leaving them open.

After making a new accelerator cable and putting on a C2 VTS inlet gasket they were on! I did use gasket paper but has an air leak and sounded like a pigeon was under my bonnet! Lol.
Started peeling off the black door strips as they were cracking. I’ve got half way.

Been a while since I wrote any of this up :( So catching up with about 6 months of progress.

So the Inox got a good polish, a new alternator belt and get the Brembo’s on. Used Mintex discs and got Redstuff pads which will soon be being replaced for some Ferrodo DS2500’s just STILL haven’t got around to buying them.

Also, I had an air leak on the inlet manifold and it sounded like there was a Budgie in my engine bay so I bought a C2 VTS inlet gasket and fitted that. Problem solved!

Then finally my ECU arrived. I went for a Predator as my mate had a map on his for bodies so I used that and we tweaked it ourselves to run on my car with the help of Andy setting it up etc.

The Innovate wideband Lambda sensor came too to make the tweaking of the map more easier and accurate than using the standard Lambda.

So after a long night and a VERY stubborn Sherry and no sleep I made it to Lydden Hill for BHP Show. This was the first track day done on this setup and really the first test. She was flying! Really was impressed and so were a lot of others :) The smile on my face on the day said it all! Few pics that got sent to me.

So once that arrived back in they went and there is no way they’re coming back out anytime soon!
The next things on the list were a 6 paddle Helix clutch kit and a Lightened & Balanced flywheel from atspeed.

Another of the little problems was an intermittent missfire so whipped off the bodies and after being told they were 182 injectors found that they were infact standard GTi injectors. I ordered some 182 injectors but one turned up broke so ended up leaving the GTi ones in to get me to FCS where I had the same problems :(

Also took it to Pod. Managed a 14.6 with fuelling problems due to a fault with the ECU. Later went on to find an injector driver had a dry solder joint.

Now for the interesting bits. I’ve been in talks with Liam about a new engine. Originally I was going to settle with 170-180bhp. After talking we came up with the idea of building a race spec engine. What was only talking and a dream is currently turning into reality! Lol.

Today the dash came out. I’m starting to prepare for the car to go off for the roll cage to be fitted. It’s going to Geoff who owns a company called R.E.D and is being fitted with a Custom Cages stock hatch cage with extra bars, gussets, seam welding, Satchell Engineering front stiffening kit and part of the bulk head to be moved back so the bodies and filter sit in nicely. Also the wipers will be converted to the LHD setup. Couple of pics from today.

A deposit has also been sent over for the cage so I’m now rushing around a little to get all the bits together so all the welding can be done in one go. A pic of the cage off of the Custom Cages website.

Today was a bit more stripping down. Took the fuel tank out, the gearbox came out and a few more interior bits. Should be getting some more done in the week. If I pull my finger out I’ll have it stripped in no time. Goes off for the cage in about 3 weeks. Hate seeing the car like this though :(

Also stripped the Brembo’s down for a refurb. Hopefully getting a refurb kit from Godspeed. Covers and pads are slightly melted. Lol.
