So I got my boy this 2001 Saxo Furio and set about finding insurance,
I could only find a telematic box policy which is being fitted tomorrow Monday after 12,
THIS is where the fun starts............
http://i56.servimg.com/u/f56/17/57/72/57/mods_l10.jpg
Rear lights changed for OE ones and...Wheels, TSW Tigers (I think) 16" fitted with 195/45/16's. :panic:
http://i56.servimg.com/u/f56/17/57/72/57/img_2011.jpg
Another set of wheels fitted with 185/55/14 sought but Red :ban:
Original size should be 165/65/14.
http://i56.servimg.com/u/f56/17/57/72/57/_210.jpg
A short bodge job later
http://i56.servimg.com/u/f56/17/57/72/57/img_2010.jpg
Tada Silver :y: (I'm going to strip and repaint them properly after the box fitment.)
ah ha job done...........
OH NO IT'S NOT as I've now found out there are 2 types of wheel and guess we have early ones with flat face bolts...
the bolts we have.... yep you guessed it 60 degree tapered bolts.
:wall:
oh and they inspect the car before fitting the box and charge £45 for a wasted call out :ouch:

Which company is this?
I highly doubt they would be checking for the correct wheel bolts lol. I doubt they'd even notice the lights....
I think you'll be fine.

Ingenie, I know someone who is already insured with them and he says the guy who fitted his spent an hour looking over the car, even removed the air filter to check it was standard ffs.
Get your self down to a scrapyard first thing Monday. Shouldn't be to hard to get hold of a set of bolts.

stop being a pussy and tick off EVERYTHING on that list
you'd be so BADMANZZZZ he wouldn't know what to do!

should have checked with the insurance before acquiring the car.

If I don't like the bread, I find another baker. I can't believe there's only one company out there who's going to insure you after checking every nut and bolt, next stop:

I did, what I didn't realise until the policy was taken out is how keen they were on inspecting the car.

I also didn't realise that there would be 2 versions of the same wheel.

I thought I would have more time to sort things but you have to have the box installed within 10 days, when I went to book the fitting I only got 2 dates so chose the latest one I could which was only 5 days away.
However I have found these http://www.raceways.co.uk http://www.raceways.co.uk/images/Peugeot-conversion-early-ty.jpg/Peugeot_conversion_washers_for_OE_wheels_pre_2000_ to_fit_longer_bolts.htm (http://www.raceways.co.uk/Peugeot_conversion_washers_for_OE_wheels_pre_2000_ to_fit_longer_bolts.htm) which according to the website is a residential address only about 6 miles away so I only hope there stock is local.

Sorry I'll rephrase that: should have fully checked with the insurance before acquiring the car

Most Furio's came with steel wheels - the optional ones weren't the Vtr ones!

So the saga continues...
Sourced some bolts last night arranged to collect at 10.30 this morning which was achieved. Arrived home 11.10 am and set about the task.
Nsr wheel changed no problem so on to the nsf and arrrggghhh feckin wheel stuck on so off to get my BFH wheel removed and changed.
On to osf wheel, changed no problem, osr wheel feckin stuck so BFH came out to play again so job done in in the hands of the gods now or rather the insurance gods box fitter/car inspector.

Fitter arrived hurrah!!!
Fitter: can't fit it mate those wheels have been painted.
Me: LMFO so what there still silver as per manufacturer spec.
Fitter: I'll ring em and ask em.
Me: you do that.
Insurance (relayed by fitter to me): I don't care what colour they have been painted yellow, black, grey or silver don't fit the box.
Fitter: they give you 10 days to sort it.
Me: I don't fooking think so, don't you move.
On the phone to Insurance which for some strange reason puts me through to his boss.
Me: How can I remedy something that's silver out of the factory and is silver now amongst other choice words.
Anyway his boss rings Ingenie, then after about 10 mins the fitters phone rings and a conversation was had.
Fitter: ok mate you can hang up now their going to make an exception.
Me: What you mean is their wrong and they've had to fooking admit it.
Fitter just laughed.

Not being funny here but wouldn't it have been better to buy your kid something utterly bog standard rather than a saxo with the desirable (lol!) factory body kit?

Probably but it came up at the right price and it looks like new drivers will all end up having these boxes fitted in the not too distant future, a sign of the times i'm afraid.

Just sounds to me like more ways for them to monitor what you do and rip you off in replacing parts so you comply to their silly rules. I bet if you want that box removed to fit to another car or whatever they charge you right?

I could've had a box with mods declared and they just "monitor" my driving and won't penalise me until after the year is up, that was with bell, I've gone with admiral all mods declared and no tracker for £40 aomth more, fuck going through all that effort for them to be funny about something and fuck being watched everytime you start the car.

The Evo doesn't count, it spent most of that time away having mental bits fitted in a garage somewhere before you sold it.

We wouldn't make an insurance claim, if minor I would sort it out, if major then just cut losses sell what's salvageable of the car and buy something else.
For what the car cost it's just not worth the hassle of a claim.

But if you wrote off someone else's car, or drove into the 1st story of a house, then you'll need to claim off your insurance regardless.
