View Full Version : Manifold hitting speedbumps

I've got a piper 4 -1 with supersprint centre section on my furio and the manifold hits the odd speedbump and part of the centre pipe occasionally hits too.
I am -50mm all round with 14 raptors (195/55/r14). Has anyone else had this problem?
Would changing to a set of 15s(195/45/r15) give me much more ground clearance and help combat it?
Or even 16s?
I drive slow as fuck over speedbumps as it is, so need to try something else! It's either or stupidly big speed bumps or the stupid little square ones. Never had this problem with standard manifold/centre pipe

I think the piper manifold downpipe just sits lower than the oem one mate.other than raising the suspension slightly i don't know what else to suggest.

Don't really wanna raise the suspension if I can help it. Thinking the slightly bigger wheels could help ?

Just a thought but are your engine mounts ok?just thinking with a dodgy mount/s the engine might be sat slightly lower.:drink:

There just the standard engine mounts that came on the car, I think I will look into changing, which mounts are good?

Unfortunately I think the piper manifolds do sit slightly lower compared to other aftermarket mani's

Yeah they do, would putting bigger wheels on give me much more clearance? Do you know?

Well yeh stick some 15's on, it should help slightly. I think 16's on a saxo just look a tad too big imo

Drive the long way instead of going over the speed bumps :P

Was going to say this! Either go the long way or don't have your car do low as to hit the floor!

Not by the standards of your local speed bumps though!

bigger wheels wont help, unless you also fit bigger tyres, but they will rub.,
just run a sensible ride height, don't be a scene whore.

It's only the odd speedbump

I like the look of -50, would bigger wheels not raise the car then?

Only if you ran tyres the wrong size which would make the tyre sit higher too so you would need to raise it for the right look anyway.
Speedo would be incorrect, mileage would become incorrect. If it's just the odd bump, avoid then!

I just found a website to compare wheels sizes, according to that adding 15s will infact lower my ride height by almost 7mm

Lift it then!

buy a different manifold that dosen't sit so low and sell the one thats on it! my s is 55 and supersprint manifold and theres no way the manifold could hit the floor!

I like this idea, gonna have to look for a supersprint one then, do they fit the mk2 without hitting the oil filter?

A 4-2-1 manifold will sit higher
