hi all,

jumped in my 106 this morning, driving down the road and after 2 mins i suddenly felt something catching, and making a grinding noise. drove back home and found the drivers side cv boot had come off, and all the grease has come out spraying it all over the inner part of the wheel and the arches.

now i know its this which is causing the grinding noise, and i suspect the boot has been off for some time maybe a week or two. but the noise has only just started happening today. the cv joint is wet but all the grease has pretty much gone.

my question is, can i repack the joint with grease for an easy fix and get abit more life out of it?

You could certainly try that and see if the noise goes away, and failing that replace the shaft.

£36.00 for a whole shaft, less messy figures?

I needed to replace the boot on a cv joint on a shaft that's done less than 2000 miles. Was easier for me to replace the shaft.

I just bought new shafts from these guys and have no complaints, fitted fine and work fine :)

well had the car up on the axle stands today, and i can safely say my cv joint has shat itself.

i think this has been bodged before as i have only done around 100 miles since i bought the car and i remember the boot being zip tied where as the other side had the correct metal band holding the boot on.

ordered 2 brand new shafts from those guys in the link. will pull the car apart tomorrow once again. woop.

cheers for the replies :)
