If you have bought a train ticket, can you get a refund?
I traveled to Scotland last sunday, and bought an open return, but on friday when i was supposed to travel back, another lad on my course was driving to Whitby, so i got a lift with him to save sitting on a train with mongs for 5 hours.. Anyone know if i can get any money back for not using the return ticket? If not, oh well, be nice if i could though!

Getting a refund and cancelling a ticket
With the exception of Advance tickets and some special offers where refunds are not available, a ticket may be refunded before travel. In the case of a return, the return portion may be refunded while still valid. A refund fee may apply.
You can get a refund by returning your ticket to the place you purchased it. If this was a ticket office, you'll need to complete a refund application form. If this was over the telephone or the internet, you should return it by post with a covering letter. More information about refunds is available here.

Seems like you would be able to get a refund but not after the date the ticket is for?

Meh, for the sake of £60, i can't be arsed going to the effort of writing a cover letter to why i haven't used the return, and posting it to them.
If it was just an online form, i'd do it
