Right the Audis fucked again... clutch pedals snapped and I'm seriously pissed off with it lol. Next weekend I should have about £3k to spend. Thinking about one of the following but don't know what to get
Seat leon cupra R
Megane 225
EP3 type R
Some sort of BMW
Any ideas?
Ps. I hate these sort of threads but I'm stuck lol

Why not set a budget of about 2k then spend that other 1k doing it up? Can get some decent mods for 1k :P

16th March 2014, 20:02
I do want something decent i just haven't got too much money atm as I'm sorting 2 bikes out haha. The civics are looking tempting atm lol. I just want something a bit more reliable than the audi haha. For £2k I think it'll be too old lol

16th March 2014, 20:04
You could get 3 nice BRMs for that money - I know you're really into your rovers and all ;)
I'd probably look for an older 3/5 series if it were me and I chose from your list... Sound of a straight 6 is just more appealing lol

Ah god don't start with the rovers mate haha :)

There's no harm in you and your mate having a Beemer, just get a better one than him lol.

Save up and get a c63.
Seriously though Id look into Megane 225s. My brother had one and it was a great drive , quick(but didnt feel it), pretty reliable (only issues he had was a window regulator shitting itself, common problem; and a tyre pressure sensor going faulty intermittently). MPG and parts costs were pretty reasonable too.
I looked into buying a DC2 a while back, then shat when I saw how expensive the parts were and how chronic the mpg was.
L33h
16th March 2014, 20:08
Also I don't want a 182. My brother had one and he went through 3 gearboxs and a engine in a year haha. Smashed the piston through the side of the block :o

Aye 225s are quite cheap atm but aren't the gearboxes or something shit? The windows aren't a problem cos I work for autoglass so I can fix em haha. Running costs aren't really a problem as I've only drove 10k miles in the last 2 years :panic:

I'm in the same boat as yourself, looking at the same type of cars...apart from the megane. Seems to be the cupras and clios are the cheaper options, I want something with a bit of poke (compared to the saxo) but not too dear to buy/run/parts/insure

You need a reliable car and the Audi isn't being that? well i never, i thought Vag cars never broke. :homme:
In reply to the above, imagine you will lose out on money. Clio's prices are on their arse. I find it's those orange/red Trophys that hold the prices well
I'd go for it. You wont lose money on it
Gandi699
18th March 2014, 13:37
1800 quid is a good deal I think, the prices will start to climb back up I reckon in a few years. Trophy aside, the colour a 182 is painted in makes a big difference to its price

remapped fabia vrs! they are a good balance of hot hatch handling, VAG reliability, depreciation safety, 55mpg+ economy and go well enough... ugly though.
Bikes are for going quick I'm starting to think these days. I commute to much in cars and can't be arsed dealing with 25mpg so that i can every once in a while boot it down a good A road. Golf GTTDI/octavia VRS tdi 170 etc are all in my boring book of approval these days.

Imo.
Clio 172/182, 206 gti 180, Civic type r, mini cooper s - all bargain basement cars now like Saxo money almost! and all offer a fun package.
Those are all winners if you like blasting through country lanes.

That's what my brother thought 4 years ago when he bought his... It's still sat on my Dad's drive now neglected! I suspect it all went downhill when it was remapped, then the cambelt snapped, then he got a new engine had more electrical problems than my E38. As good as it was on fuel, and as nippy as it was, the thing was just a problem, and although I doubt they're all like that, from reading about said problems, it seems like they do have very common problems and that was 4 years ago, I dread to think how bad they could potentially be now!

I'm just about to go and have a look at that 182. Might get it if its decent. I know the lads got ocd so I'm sure itll be clean haha.
Blackie how much is that bm? looks alright I might have it if i dont like this clio.
Either way this is just going to be temporary while I sell the audi and the bike :)

Fuck sake Dave, thought I had my next budget car all picked out but that sounds a nightmare!
Maybe I'll get another 306 chug wagon, managed to scrape mine through another MOT on Monday after about an hour of welding

Saving up is a bit more might have to do for a little bit as I've fixed the audi and want something newer that I don't have to work on all the time lol. I'll see if I can pull the money together Blackie and check insurance lol. Wanna buy a SRAD? :fcuk:

I think it's a matter of when not if with the immobiliser and the fuse box...
The cambelt had apparently only done about 30k miles iirc as well, unless that was a lie from the previous owner. Either way, when it worked, it was decent, when it didn't, it was a nightmare.
Brettles1986
20th March 2014, 15:02
Hers was awesome on fuel even though it was very slow imo. Her cambelt also went even though it had been changed a few months prior to it going with little mileage on it.
She had a nice red on but that got written off by some pratt in the lanes.
For economy they are brilliant cars. If it's economy you're after then a recent Ibiza 1.4tdi can return 70MPG.

Nah mate. I'd rather sell it when everything's right so I've been sorting a few things. I think I've fixed the problem I spoke to you about. The main power connector was a bit dodgy so I've sorted all the wires out and it seems to be fine. The rear light is being a bastard so there's a switch on the way. Tax n test it and it's ready to go :y:

How is the 206gti to drive? I have never been in one before.
Despite many would have you believe, they are actually blinding cars to drive. They are no slouch same sort of straight line ability to 100 as the Clio 182. Cornering ability not far behind if at all driver dependant on both. Lots of mod cons auto this and that. Sound sick decatted pops and farts on overrun.
I won't lie I love it. This is my second one. I think they got a harsh review and are a true gti. Can't see how anyone could say otherwise really. The thing that let the 180 down was the 17" wheels, should have been 16" stock and Jeremy Clarkson actually said it was cool.
Truth is no one wanted to like it. The 180 is the car the gti should have been. Trolololol
