People always tell me I must just be unlucky with all the problem I have had with German vehicles. It looks like I'm not along. Looks like the Germans eclectics is poorer then the Italians these days :clapping:

Most of them aren't German?

Not really a good article to be fair.
They named Daihatsu in the top 10 best? How many cars do you think Daihatsu sell in the UK compared to Mercedes/Audi etc? Of course there are going to be more failures.
Not only that. How many electrical components are there in a Daihatsu or Renault compared to a Mercedes or Audi? Considering things like electric seats, heated seats, sat nav, infra red and everything else that is fitted these days. There is a lot more to go wrong in them.
And before any body comments about my "bias", I'm a fan of VWs, not German cars. The point still stands.

I was in the fusebox of my E90 yesterday, it was vast, it has many electrical things, what electric wonderments does a Daihatsu even have? do they actually have lights?

Any more electric and I think my car would run on it, and sure enough, it has electrical gremlins. Constantly tells me to check brake lights/fog lights when they're fine.

I'm back in a proper car again now (German) and absolutely love it. The only issues were caused by the previous owner's need to fit in with the stance crowd.
Oh and the ambient temp sensor is playing up a bit, car thought it was -40°C last weekend lol.

It's hauling all those chubby women around, my bets are on suspension or undercarriage issues. (The car not you, or possibly both).

I actually thought the rear bushes were shagged, turns out it's just the handbrake cable though, so all is well. Can't even get chubby women nowadays Brettyboy. It actually just has a few starting issues though, will be fine soon though I'm sure when it's on fire

Its a bit of a luck pot.
That black VTR in my display pic i bought off a lad on here on 81K iirc, i added him on Facebook and there were vids of him key banging it and all sorts. I was younger and drove it like an absolute tit everywhere, no drive where the limiter wasn't hit. When i finally spun out and ran it down the armco at Blyton it was on 126K iirc. I had serviced it every 5K and warmed it up... that was all. It had a new clutch at about 100K and 3 sets of cheap drop links. THATS ALL. i gave it total death everyday, overloaded it and thrashed it. It never put a foot wrong.
My Xsara VTS was a total nightmare, mechanically perfect, electrical faults just everywhere.
My clio sport played up all the time too, that car just had random failures. Coil pack just packed in, rear damper popped, horn stopped working, wheel bearing went, strut top went, engine mount collapsed, it blew bulbs for laughs, at was arcing down its plugs and loads else.
My fabia VRS has been ok so far. I just drive it really steadily up the motorway to sheffield and back, hence buying it. Haven't floored it for about 2 weeks so that will obviously influence its lifetime. The window mechanism packed in but thats all.
Most reliable car i owned was my mk5 fiesta Zetec s.

I have issues with the beast at the moment as well. Changed the broken thermostat the other day and cross threaded the bottom bolt point (FML). It still loses water but not very fast at all. In addition to that someone smashed the mirror off of it.
Going to look at getting an EP3 type R very soon.

A few people I have spoken to have said that with the mileage I do the MPG will be not far off the same on both.
So I started to think let's have some fun in a car (as the Kalos is mind numbingly boring) and the Civic ticks the box for that.

Older brother had a Merc once. Had it about 18 months and the gearbox (auto) packed in. To their credit Mercedes replaced the box and shipped the old one back to Germany, to strip down and find out what went wrong.
Apart from that, the only other crisis he had was when he'd gone on holiday and parked it long term at Heathrow. Accidentally left the courtesy light on and returned 3 weeks later to a flat battery (around 2 in the morning, pissing down with rain.) He didn't know the car had a proper key to get in (flicked out of the remote) then didn't know the battery was under the rear seats ( unbelievably, he has a degree in nuclear physics) :P:P:P

never had a german car that Ive own fail yet - and Ive had tons, got 2 of them just now that I use.
then again, I have ALLOT of mechanical sympathy, for example I may rag it 50 miles, but then it will get driven another 500 sensibly, I don't understand these people who rag the fuck out of their car everywhere they go expecting it to be bullet-proof
