Right i have an issue with my vtr

Was running fine last week.... now when i start the engine the revs go all the way to over 5k so i have to turn it off ....

There is no eml light on at all....but i know it works as it was coming on before when first turning ignition...

Its had new plugs recently and ive checked and cleaned all the sensors including icv coolant temp sensor etc

Sounds like a popping noise coming from the coil pack rocker cover area when it revs and its popping out the back...

Could it be the coilpack perhaps? Ive check the earths and fuses and they are fine

yes that is fine....and also the butterfly isnt stuck....im thinking could it be the icv? the engine bay was dirty when i got it so could be dirt in it?

Only way your car can be revving high is that more air is getting into the inlet. Check for split hoses going to your inlet and make sure nothing has come off. If your icv is stuck open it would let it rev.

I think the icv is stuck open....just weird how it can go to working perfectly to stuck open all of a sudden..... weird....will update tomorow if i find out... going to get the codes read if there is any :)

Just take the icv out it's 2 T20 torx screws and give it a good clean with WD40.

Also reset the ECU by turning the ignition on and of 6 times and on th 7th start the car up. Leave about 10 seconds between each ignition turn

i had this problem recently (2 days ago) and i cleaned the icv twice, still happened etc, so i replaced it and still happened, so then i checked map sensor, that seemed okay until i wiggled it around and it was letting the slightest bit of air in which made it go crazy! so i went to scrap yard and bought a inlet manifold with all sensors, but pockets the sensors as they wanted a fortune for them, the inlet cost me £12., so i got back and before i took on the inlet change i just had one last try and replaced the map and icv and wayhay it work and hasn't missed a beat since!!
