So I thought i'd start a progress thread on my car. I've had it for about 8 months now, and it's my first car. I want to keep it for another couple of years, maybe eventually doing a VTR engine swap depending on what money/time allows. I bought it totally standard, with about 95,000 on the clock, everything was in perfect working order and there wasn't a scratch on it. It only cost me £580 so was a bit of a steal to be honest!

As a side note, whats the best site to use to upload my pictures? Thanks guys, and like with any progress thread, any input is welcome!

so here come the pictures! The first is last August when I got it, i'm not sure what shade of red it is but its pretty striking, I was more than happy.

All completely standard, and fitted with one of the horrific 'black boxes' that don't let you do anything fun in a car whatsoever.

Ok, so the first thing I did was change the boring citroen trims for some that suited the car a bit more, only temporarily till I bought some *I KNOW EVERYONE HAS THEM* VTR wheels.

Not long after that I did the usual bits, changed the crappy CD player to a Pioneer aux unit, it wasn't hundreds but it does the job, sounds brilliant and had all important amp-out ports. I changed the front speakers too, from the paper things to a nice pair of Edge door speakers, again not a lot but made the world of difference to the sound.

So one Wednesday night in October I was driving home after work (about 11pm) on unlit B-roads. The roads are an accident blackspot round Peterborough, one week in December there was about 5 cars that went in the river in the space of a week, and a load more crashes near. Anyway, I went to pull out of a junction to turn right, and underestimated the speed a car was coming at me (all you can see at night is a pair of headlights). Obviously being national speed limit roads, they were doing about 60 and rightly so. Anyway, I pulled out, realised I was fucked and did the only thing I could do to avoid being T-boned by this other car (Pictures below). The police were called, I was breathalised etc but I hadn't been drinking, just working. I'd never been in shock before but its a weird feeling. The next day I woke up and thought i'd see my little sax parked outside but it was only then i realised I had actually crashed. It cost me £150 to get it recovered, but that's nothing compared to what could of happened. I had my friend in the car and I felt guilty for putting him in danger too, obviously it was completely my fault and I don't know what I did to deserve the luck I got. Not only was there no crash, but the next day when my car was safety checked, it was completely fine - the only damage being a small crack in the bumper, a smashed wheel trim and a mis-alligned wheel, total repair cost being just £15.

I did what anyone should, and drove it straight after I got the little guy, apologising after every corner for crashing my little car

I should mention, that ditch was about 6 feet deep, the pictures don't do it justice of how deep the ditch was and how much of an angle the car was at (it was half leaning on the passenger side). I was so lucky because of the angle I went in, the car kind of slid down the bank instead of crashing into it. The scraping it made getting it out in the last picture made me cringe.

In about November 2013 I finally got a set of Alloys, only £100 from ebay with 4 new tyres, all of them expensive performance types, I cant remember off the top of my head what makes but I know they costed a lot. The wheels weren't in amazing condition but refurbing them in a dark grey is on the cards at some point.http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag169/tastysombrero31/Photo0091_zpsfbd42c18.jpg

Christmas came around and I got just what I wanted - A 12 inch active subwoofer. I'm not a 'rollin round the estate listening to dnb' kind of person, but I do really enjoy music and love how much more bassy and dynamic music became when it was installed. I'll add pictures later on but it's just a standard Subwoofer boot install.

Next on the cards was to sort out the faded grey grill, which looked horrible. Easy enough, take out, spray black, put back in, and done.http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag169/tastysombrero31/grillprogress_zps356acb0e.jpg

Some time in January 2014 I decided to get rid of some of the stickerbombing, some of you will be thankful to know. The wing mirror, Citroen badge and petrol cap is still on but the boot stickerbombing has gone, and I think this was a wise decision, it makes the back look a lot better.

Now, in March 2014, my latest mod has been to DIY mesh the grill. It took about 4 hours all in all but was definitely worth it. I put the grill back in, gave the sax a good clean and took some pics.

Nope, it got taken to a local garage who said they wouldn't let me drive it away until they knew there was no damage or anything. They had it up on the stand and everything, apart from a mis-aligned wheel, they couldn't find anything up with it.
And I will do next time, i'm new to this forum stuff! :bored:

Yeah, to be fair it wasn't too bad and I came out of the other side with barely a scrape, but it really changes your driving style, I'll always stop at a junction now if a car is pretty close just in case

nice find for the seats! what other plans do you have?

Thanks, i'm not sure yet, I finish my first year's insurance in August so after they get rid of the stupid black box thing I want to lower it, but only around 40-50mm as I like the more subtle drop, and I already have a problem with the back wheels rubbing on the arches so I need to get that fixed first of all anyway.
Then after that, bits like upper and lower strut braces, get rid of the horrific forte door cards, and hopefully within a year do a VTR swap - VTS swap would be perfect but cause of insurance and stuff like that, an 8v sounds more reasonable.
All with money allowing of course!

martin1985
7th April 2014, 21:24
cool, you will need arch rollers on the arches going 50mm, i take it you are going the flat arch look?. yes 8v will be way cheaper but 16v is way better :p

Cool, thats an easy enough job then. I like both, but I think I prefer the fact if it stays flat then its more subtle and I don't have to worry about getting a VT kit and painting and fitting etc.
I know the 16v is a lot better but maybe that's something for a couple years time, I hope so anyway ;)

Yes mate. Be careful, as the spoiler might come with foam pads on around the screw holes (for the VT back window) - make sure you sand off and get rid of all the foam and tiger seal the bare plastic spoiler. First time we sealed the foam pads to the window and the pads failed, somehow the back wiper caught the spoiler though haha

Yeah, I used this trim restore on all the plastics, it basically just shined them and didn't restore any blackness, so I think thats the next thing to sort, although they do look a bit better after a clean :)
If i take the little forte thing off, will the paint underneath be discoloured or brighter or anything?

Ahh i'm not sure then :/ I use autogylm bumper & trim gel which worked well for me.

Removing the badge probably will leave it discoloured but a bit of colour restorer might solve that

I finally cleaned my car, and couple of weeks ago got a Sportex backbox. I've heard mixed reviews of them but to be honest mine is perfect, at 40 you can't hear it at all and at 60 its not much more than a hum, 70+ is a bit loud but I don't tend to use motorways or many national speed limit roads so it doesn't bother me. It does sound really nice though and not as 'fart boxy' as I thought it might. Also it seems to be really well put together, it seems like it will last. Quick question, would it fit directly onto a VTR if I was to get one? Or is the centre section a different size/hangars different etc. Thanks, and as always any comments welcome.

So today my little car failed its MOT. :(
I've got to have a new manifold, new cat and new lambda sensor put on, which will probably end up costing the best part of £200. Apart from that though, there was no other problems with any of the suspension, brakes, bodywork, engine, or anything else, so that's pretty good for a 14 year old car.

I was looking at getting a VTS this month but that fell through, partly cause the seller was as dodgy as Del boy and partly because insurance for the S only having 1 years no claims was a bit ridiculous. So i'll be keeping with the 1.1 for another year, and then look at upgrading.

And no, my neighbor doesn't have a Fiesta ST, its the 1.0 ecoboost zetec-S, but its still faster than a VTR haha

Thank you for sending it so quickly :) I know what you mean about the wheels, its not the exact colour i wanted, its more of an army grey at the minute, but i can't be bothered to redo them for now :p
And I've tried the spray on stuff for the bumpers, Wynns I think it was, and a hot air gun but neither seemed to work, what else is good that I'd see a difference in?

Small update, will be changing the fuel filter tomorrow (the first time I've tried it so I hope its as easy as it looks), and I've also ordered some autoglym bumper gel stuff, so as soon as it gets delivered i'll get some pictures up, if it does a good job.
And in response to the people who commented on the colour of the wheels, I will most likely order some new spray and primer after September or if I have any money left over after holiday. I'll get gunmetal or anthracite grey, as this was what I was going for the first time but I cheaped out on the paint and paid the price.
Opinions or suggestions welcome as always :)
