Im wondering if I can upgrade my brakes without spending daft money, maybe from a xsara or 206 etc, that bolt straight on from a scrapyard or brokers.
Also isit best to change the calipers, disk etc or just a certain part if thats any sense? Cheers guys.

Bleed the brakes, fresh (budget) discs and good pads are the best idea unless you're seeing track use etc, then consider a slight upgrade in size to a 266 setup (206 gti etc).
Save your money.

A friend of mine brought a vts and had to upgrade the break on his car, we went out and brought a set off a 206 gti and they have made the car alot more responsive, alot better, i would say go for the 206 gti

they wont improve your stopping distance but they will change the amount of force you have to apply on the hydraulic system. For the better - not totally convinced myself.

That's not a serious question. .?
1. Standard/current ones are shit.
2. I'll be camming and TBing my car next 2-3months so need to be a little better.

What people mean is its not always necessary to upgrade the brakes to larger diameter discs and associated calipers. Pad choice, disc type and fluid upgrade can offer cheaper and just as effective improvements

There on ebay, do you think they will be decent, with braided brake hoses and new fluid?

Oem replacements usually those things, they'll be alright but don't expect track day or race performance pads when you get them

I just want them to feel more reassuring, they don't have to be to be race spec material.
I've heard from a few ppl the standard vtr brakes are pants :/

Just get them re adjusted, will cost about 60 quid at a garage and youll really tell the difference

i had a set of ebb yellows, taros g88 discs and some racing blue fluid on my vtr - standard size discs and standard callipers.
it used to out brake most things, they were lethal. lots better than my current set up - halfrauds fluid, ferrodo pads and hi spec 4 pots with 320mm rotors.

They ain't all that though!
The discs they need are heavy, they make a racket when you brake and you either need spacers to use 15inch wheels or 16 inch wheels
A set if braided lines (all four)
Fresh quality fluid
Good quality oe spec disks
Uprated pads
And the handbrake adjusted correctly and its fine

Most if it's to do with heat disapation of the disc and force multiplication between the master cylinder and the caliper cylinder. Bigger brakes as a whole are generally better until you get to the point you can't even keep the brakes warm then it's just overkill.
If you took standard brakes with uprated disc and pads and compared them against 266 or 283 with uprated disc and pads the standards with general come worse off. BUT ONLY FROM HIGH SPEEDS. At low speeds you would never notice a difference apart from how the pedal might feel abit firmer or less travel.
Also you may need to upgrade your master cylinder size to improve force multiplication depending on brakes

The limit of braking (measured by deceleration) is tyre grip...
As I've said before - you want the SMALLEST discs you can run that will not fade under the intended use you plan. Larger discs and bigger brakes have many negative implications.

Personally,
I'd go for 4 pots. Howevs like if you have a budget, 4 pots might cost you more than you'd like.
For instance,
Moi, second time round...
150 for Calipers collected
40 to paint
20 on custom decals (only used badge)
2-3 on normal decals
Then you'd need
fluids
23mm MC *assuming you're on Brembos*
discs
Pads
lines
fitting if you canny do it yourself...
So far I've spent 190 odd on mine. Still need discs *arguably don't* decent pads, lines & fluids.
Anyway, I agree with what people say about normal brake upgrades. Discs,pads etc can make all the difference.
For instance,
My last set of Brembos,
I got cheap discs *drilled and grooved* and some shit mintex pads. The guy who ended up with my car took the 4 pots off earned some pocket money and ended up with better pads on gti brakes etc and he thought it performed better.
I'd still say, not only do 4 pots look far better, but after decent pads etc they will or at least should outperform the gti's. So much to factor in though I guess... they add weight. Tell you what though, even on shit pads my vts stopped definitely far better than stock...
Anyway. I will stop talking crap now.
