Hello there,i made another thread a while ago about this same noise thinking it was the alternator or belt but after taking them off the noise is still there and it comes from the cambelt cover.
The noise seems like an electric motor that gets louder as you rev,it's constant, even with the engine cold/at operating temp the noise is still there.
This is a video of said noise.

Note: You may want to turn your volume down as the phone amplifies it a lot.
Many thanks.

without looking at the video I'd say it's a tensioner. try identify where the noise is coming from on the cam cover then reference that with a picture of the timing belt and pulley setup.

Mine sounded just like it when it got changed 8 weeks ago and it was a combo of tooo tight belt and a noisy water pump.
Only covered 1k lol.
All got changed ofcourse but its something to think about

I think it's time for a timing belt change,do not know the last time it was done so worth doing it just for that, thanks.

Hi vtr,now that you got me thinking when i last changed the coolant it looked to me very similar to plain water so if that's the case that could have corroded the water pump,it's a possibility.
Anyway i will use a stethoscope hoping i can determine exactly where the noise is coming from and update this thread accordingly, thanks for now.

What about a radiator cleaner? Would it be worth a try? Thanks.

Thanks for the help, yes that sound incredibly similar,so your problem was just a too tight cam belt, will take note of this, thank you. :y:

Yeah, it was a fractionally too tight.
Does your noise get more noticeable as the engine warms up? Mine was only audible when the car was fully up to temperature.
Not sure what its like to set up the 16v but on my 8v the "elastic band feel" set-up as described in my post worked a treat.

Update: Hoping it can help someone else having the same issue the noise was caused by faulty water pump bearings, replaced it as part of cam belt kit and the noise has disappeared.

Certainly flush out the radiator with the cleaner won't hurt at all.:drink:fwiw to me it sounds like alternator bearings.Try slackening off the drivebelt a tad see if the noise goes.
