View Full Version : Worst ever tyres you've had on a car?

As above, what are the worst tyres you have ever had to put up with on a car?

For me, it's 50/50 between the autogrips I had on my Clio, and the fullrun's I had on the front of the turbo vts.... both left me with serious brown seat moments in the wet...

My mot man put some double stars on the back of my focus, it took the lift off out of "lift off oversteer", makes the car very entertaining in the wet

A008's in the wet.

My VTS had Cheng Shan Sportcat CSC5's on it when I got it.

I made it home though, just, and it was dry!

WANLIs on a 56 plate 1.25 fiesta.

Span the wheels in the dry, and it was the most underpowered piece of shit ever.

Wanli tyres. My mate had 4 on an impreza when he bought it and the army in there cost saving wisdom put some on the back of a 6 litre Audi A8 with Bridgestone potenza on the front. It just wanted to turn around when pulling out of junctions in the wet!

T1R's. At least the Yakatakky Ditchfinder 3000's have an excuse.

Cant remember which exact ones, but my VTR had Tigar tyres on it all round. Was actually quite good, you could get drifts going at roundabouts by just turning in really hard, theyd just break grip so easily. When you did that the tyres absolutely screamed and howled, so people would hear it and expect a car to come bombing round... but the saxo would only be doing about 10-15mph.

Had all the feedback and grip of driving on blocks of wood.

budgets on a 106, can't remember the brand. Going faster than 12 mph in a roundabout was suicide, also shit mpg / tons of road noise + rolling resistance.

michelin pilot sport 2 on the ST , no grip either on accelaration or braking and very crap at cornering !
the cheapest i have ever put on a car is 4 Gislaved tyres on my S1 rallye back in 2001 and they where suprisingly very good for that lightwright car!!

Just got 2 Event wl905's on the front of the S, £45 a corner budgets.

Read the reviews "after" getting them, were shocking! Tbh though they aint bad, doesnt spin up in dry or wet unless being a total tool and all round grip is good. Still wouldnt want to push it in the wet...

will be getting some more eagle f1's when funds allow.

Worst has to be sunny tyres.

Currently got 4 mismatched cheap and damaged ditch finders on the 800.
Couldn't tell you what make they are, but they spin up easily in 3rd and when wet, in 4th!
Wonder about all over the place too - It does need a full set, but I'll be selling it soon so I really CBA.

A mixture of wanlis and sunnie and 2 other brands I had never herd of..

Was fun using it on a remapped Quattro audi, thing whent broad sideways if you wanted to, but was more of a death-trap with them tyres on, ended up switching them for Vredistien ultrac vorti tyres that did nowt but grip all day long :) even made the car drive straight too, whereas the mixture of Korean tyres would try and snake the car about.

Probably parada spec 2's which were well worn with an almost bald inner edge from a sports alignment. They were legal but they're awful in the wet anyway, but like that it'd happily spin up in 4th on part throttle at mid revs. Absolutely horrible.

Nankang on the rear of the S2000......I have no idea what I was thinking, there was literally no grip in the wet at all.

Federal Super Sport SS595 205/45 R16 - supposedly filled with nitrogen (says on the tyre super steel, seller said sport)

Grip was shite in wet, not so much better in the dry - minimal tread left but none the less fuck me I'd never buy those new. I used to struggle for grip reversing down my drive and turning the wheel lol! I could hear and feel the car struggling for grip.

Toss up between 2.

Alpha Accelera's as a budget tyre aren't hideously bad in the dry, but they're sheer comedy gold in anything other than direct sunlight.

Generally, Toyo T1R's. Absolutely hideously soft sidewall, feels like you're driving on blancmange regardless of pressure. These are still the only tyres I've ever removed from a car lol

I don't mind T1r's I have a new set just fitted and they're sweet, haven't pushed it yet but in 205/45/17 they were good. Had them a few times before, not my favorite but as an all rounder I think they're up there for cheap sporty tyres.

Haha the acceleras are dreadful had some on my Clio 197 when i bought it. Could scandanavian drift with the slightest hint of damp on the roads. Infact I think on one occasion fingering a girl in the passenger seat was enough for the tyres to lose all form of traction.

Not had terrible experiences with T1R's in all honesty.

Had a set on the evo when I bought it and on a spare set of wheels I bought, held up very well in dry and ok in the wet considering.

They seem to be a common choice of tyre on the evo, maybe as there under £300 for a full set, budget price for a (premium) tyre.

Never any traction issues etc. but likely to do with the set-up on the car.

That was in the form of 235/40/17 (from memory) though so may be the reason for lack of sidewall issues.

Switched to the R1R and whilst they do feel a better tyre, it's not exactly a massive night and day difference from my experience soo far in the dry. But definitely an improvement in the wet.

I imagine tyre choice will also vary widely depending on their application.

I think the car has a massive effect on the T1R, a lot of people do seem to rave about them, so they can't all have the experience I did. They were on a small light hatchback when I had them, so probably a very different proposition to a heavier 4wd piece of kit!

Can't remember what my cousin had them on now, sure it was his escort rs however don't quote me on that. But he didn't have a good word to say about them, very similar experience to you had with them!

He then bought an Evo V with a set on, allowed some money in his budget to swap them, but kept them on as he was surprised with how good they were.

He has now bought a focus rs with some on and he can't get them off quick enough, quite mad really!!

With how quick evo's get thru tyres though, I can understand why there such a common tyre at only £300 a set. My rear tyres were gone in about 3 months of use, so it makes the likes of some of the other premium brands quite an expensive choice.

I'm looking forward to summer now, get the yoko ao48's on for some summer spirited drives!

Just remembered how the hell could I of forgot about these?.... Currently got Landsail's on the front of the work van, and they do exactly what they say on the tyre... especially in the wet. I didn't know tyres could be made completely out of plastic.... lethal, lethal things

Can't say I've ever had terrible tyres on any car. Always go mid range rather than budget, although my old conti rainsports were pants on track in the dry!

Camac Aurigas on a metro gti, bad in the dry, lethal in the wet quite simply the most dangerous tyre I've ever experienced. We're made of such a hard compound it was unbelievable, were bad enough on a standard 1.1 and yet people still put them on 160bhp plus metros - pure madness
