Hi All,
This is prob in the wrong area but I cant post it in the for sale section and its not strictly a "for sale" notice.
The time has come for me to chop in my old VTR that I've had since new in 03.
I've been offered 200 quid PX by a Honda main dealer but have no idea what its actually worth so any direction would be great.
- 53 plate
- 52k miles
- serviced yearly (except this year as I knew I'd be getting rid - so needs a timing belt change)
- dented driver side door
- interior needs a hoover but otherwise pretty clean
- started making grindy noises in the last 3 weeks which I believe is the clutch release bearing or gearbox =/
- never had any other issues with it and its never not started
Is it worth selling privately or for parts or is that 200 quid a good offer?
Cheers,
Stark

That's fairly low mileage, even despite the bits that could be wrong with it you could certainly get more than £200 for it if you sold it.

It's probably worth more than £200 I'd have said. With one owner and low miles you'll be looking at over £500 easy.
Do you have any pics you could upload?

Depends if it has tax and MOT I guess. Might be worth an extra 100 quid to the right person, possibly more if it has long tax and MOT.
They're offering you trade price like, always get more for it off private seller, although if it makes a grindy noise maybe not much more, especially needing a timing belt as well.
If it's totally standard though, might be worth a bit more to someone as well.

Worth less tbh I'll buy it.
In all seriousness though, it is worth more than £200. I sold mine for £500 a while back and that had a few issues with it and higher mileage.

200 quid, they're having a cheap laugh at your expense.

Well not really, the garage will have to fix it up, service it probably and sell on to make a profit... They can't do that by offering him private prices can they

if it's like most garages I've seen, they'll buy at 200 and resell at 995 with no work done whatsoever.

That's true enough I guess.
I saw a dirty but potentially decent VTR yesterday though, £695. Dunno about mileage, but it hadn't been taxed since January, so it's obviously been stood a while. Dare I say it, I almost felt half tempted as I'm in need of another car!

They're having a laugh - I'll buy it off you for £200.
Saxo prices have risen insanely over the last year or so. See thread link. (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=462870)

I don't deal with those. Had fond memories of one who repeatedly left offers on my car for 2 weeks, the idiot was initialy giving me 240 quid and went up to 500.

I have sen a few horrors i.e. VW golf mk2 with 174k on the clocks, rotten body right down to the wiper blades that were replaced by green moss, mushrooms growing on the seats etc. Dealer was asking 4.5k for it.

depends if your a bit strapped for cash or not. Your going to keep it, spend money and time advertising it, have people come to your house then not buy it, countless phone calls from time wasters and then sell it for £300 more.
For the sake of £300 you could just have rid straight away. lots would, lots wouldn't. Just for you.
Private sale i would assume its worth about £500.

^^^ nah, I would advertise it at 1100 minimum (it only has 52k miles) then let it go for under that if people haggle. And yes be prepared to see a few 18 year old chavs who can't even afford the insurance.

You're probably not going to get a lot of interest at £1,100 to begin with though, because there are so many underneath that. Especially if it has gearbox issues and a dent in the door...

Worth probably £600-700. Advertise it privately imo and give the dealer the £200 difference, and have a good night out on the rest ;)
