Yes, Dell. Surprisingly the hundreds of Pcs & laptops I've deployed over the past few years have been without issue :y:

Does not take that long!

Plus you can run windows on it. You can pick up Apple refurbed ones on their site at the min, at very good prices. £800ish for a pro, buy some extra ram £50 and off you go.

Buy a Dell (One with dual hdd bays) then an ssd. Run your OS/Programs on your ssd, save files on a standard hdd. Easy.

Ideally a machine with i5 8GB of ram.

What programs do you run?

I dont like Dell and they are only mail order. I should have said I need to be able to buy this in a shop, my current laptop is dying so I'm buying a replacement instead of being sent the usual crap the company makes us use.

programs - office (all day everyday), skype, googleearth, mapping tools, tracking tools, CAD VPN's etc

Nothing too special but when theres about 25 different windows open my current laptop jsut sits there spinning meaning im losing time just sitting there waiting for shit to process.

For programming at work I've got a HP Elitebook, not sure on price but I can imagine they'll be top end of your budget.
I don't run CAD on it but I run some energy sapping program's. It's still not a patch on my mbp tho.

Ticks your boxes power wise though. They even do a model down which is a probook I think.

TBH, sounds like a mac would be perfect for the CAD work etc.

Thought about alienware? There are a few places that can supply them. You could always go into a shop and they'll build you a barebone laptop to your own spec.

I dont have much chance of getting an Alienware or refurbished computer put through on my expenses.

Ideally I was jsut looking for links to some super fast laptops that I can job down to the local computer shop in Dubai and buy

It's a business one you'll want really, online FTW, at work I use an HP ProBook, it's pretty pro, like what I am and that

I'd go for the lenovo thinkpad as you have already mentioned. I've always had one of these and they're the nuts, pretty pricey but the manufacturing standards are second to none and always come with pretty decent specs with the high end models.

Tiny screen for CAD, shit resolution too, 1366 x 768

Unless you dock it?

to be honest for a machine you work on you want to spend at least triple that

If you're going to be running a few hefty programs you might want a better option, as the processor seems pretty wankish on that. Can get much more bang for your buck, just have to browse away :homme:

You have a lot to learn in the world of IT purchasing

#1, is the user male, if so is the device able to view pornography? if so is it robust enough to cop frequent loads?

This seems to cover all bases, we sell these to our customers at work and are a good and nice looking machine. Normally for CAD users we sell them these:

But they are quite heavy for lugging around all day and it's a Dell which you said you didn't want.....
