Me and the Mrs differ with our tastes. She is very eclectic and has a taste for old style houses and decor where as I am very much a fan of new and contemporary.

I do very much like old buildings that are renovated to have contemporary interior though.

What is your preference?

depends on the house for me.
That said each of the rooms in our house has a different "theme" so to speak

So essentially in keeping with the theme of the house?

What I mean is lets say its an 200 year old cottage you have, I think it'd be totally wrong to have a very modern interior inside thats not sympathetic to the exterior of the property. Its got to "fit" if you get what I mean.
As my house is a 1950s semi then it doesnt really matter as anythings sort of fits sao we've gone for different themes in each room - gothic sort of living room, very 1950s diner style kitchen, nautical inspired hall and landing

Simplistic, I hate clutter. If done properly the clash of Modern and traditional works well imo and is my personal preference.

I love modern sleek materials but I think integrating slates, stone and a good quality wood can compliment it perfectly.

I couldn't let a woman dictate the interior design of the house, unless she had her own room (a basement). I'd let her do as she pleased with that.

Just some sort of ideas, if I had a limitless pot of money my future home would have such a range of features... Infact i'd have to plan for months all of the criteria i'd want to achieve.

Some ideas... 100% want a herb rack in the kitchen though preferably against an old stone feature wall, and the rest pretty much modern sleek with flashes of traditional dark wood or something.

I live in a new build house, so my furniture is quite modern with wall paper to match. But the bedroom is all reclaimed solid oak that cost a fortune.

Matt that stairs is awesome as is the shower room. I love the idea of having the shower head in the ceiling giving the effect of rain.

Yes the stone wall behind has a constant trickle of water running down like a water fall which I think would be a nice feature. I think i'd want a feature in each room...

Massive fan of those sort of stairs, not very common but look amazing!

I like watching Grand Designs, some of the houses they build are off the friggin chain, I get all these ideas to use railway sleepers as kitchen tops or to recycle my turds to make a banister. The show fills me with loads of inspiration then I look around my house and realise I'm in an advert for Ikea

Got about 12 huge railway sleepers and i'm on the verge of having a big poo (last one was 2.5 days ago)...

If that helps to get you started?

Report back with further details on that big poo when the time comes and we'll go from there

I'm deffo with Matt on this, modern and traditional can be made perfect and those pics show the kinda things I love, for me my dream house would be a converted barn or church where you can integrate the modern with the old style

this looks fucking amazing, couldn't agree more. I want to buy a run down country house / barn conversion and renovate it in this style, just not quite as expensively haha.

I live in a 1979 generic estate house in a fairly nice part of derby, my house is very modern, white walls, bright furniture, loads of glass etc - but it suits the house. I definitely think you should decorate to keep within the theme of the house, if i were to make this house look like the pictures above, as much as i'd love it, it'd look stupid haha.
