Evening folks, I'm just wondering has anyone got the new Samsung S5? Because I decided to give myself a birthday present yesterday by dropping my iPhone face down on the floor in the beer garden and shattered the screen :wall:
So I've decided its time for a new phone as I was getting sick of the 4s tbh and fancy a Samsung but have read some poor reviews of the S5 saying it can be slow and feels a bit cheap, I would get the S4 but I don't want to be suck in a 2 year contract with an old phone... I like the note 3 but having held it, its just a bit too big.
Anyone got any other suggestions or comments on the S5 itself? :panic:

I was going to suggest the M8, m8. I have the m7 and its awesome. Had it a year and its never frozen or anything!
But if your on a budget I'd wait for the oneplus one like danny said.

Yeah cheers I've just googled it and bloody hell the specs on that are really good! I might have to wait it out, damn you just made my decision even harder now lol
I've got an S4 as a work phone, can't stand it.
Feels cheap and flimsy in my hand, and shattered the screen after it slipped out of my pocket when I was getting in the car. The updates always seem to make something not work properly, ie, last update stopped me from being able to sync my calendars on my laptop & phone.
I've dropped my iphone the same way several times and only ever had scratches to show for it.
TLDR; I'm an iphone fanboy, and don't like the android ui. It sucks balls.

I cannot stand Iphones, and I personally have an s4 mini. HOWEVER, I would not suggest the s5 because I've heard it's not that much better than the s4.
I actually tested the new sony experia z2 at work today and you can record in 4k which is frankly, mental.

I've got the Galaxy 5, I quite like it.
It depends what you want from a phone and if you're half decent with technology.
IMO, If you just want a phone that works, get an iPhone.
If you want a phone that can do everything and you're not restricted to what you can do, get an android.
The s5 does 'feel' a bit cheap, but its nice and light. its got a fantastic screen and its very quick. I do make sure I restart it every couple of days though.

I was going to Pre-order the S5, as I've always liked samsung had the S2 and the S4. I read all the negative reviews, and decided to try the Sony Experia Z2 instead. My lass got the S5. Comparing the two I made the best choice. Build quality is fantastic. It has some amazing features. S5 is a big let down imo. Very plastic feel, and not much changed from the S4.

I like the TV remote feature. But I assume other android devices do the same?
It's a life saver when you can't be arsed to turn the lounge upside down.

I'm a little bit miffed by the M8 tbh, I have the M7 and agree, it's a great phone. Still have a good portion of a year left on the contract.
However I was disappointed with the supposed upgrade and i'd be pissed off if i had just got the M8.
Basically the same 4mp lens on the m7 which is fine, for general snaps, but when you want them a bit bigger you lose detail.
They had an opportunity to put a great 8MP sensor minimum on this phone but they missed a trick.
If the next gen " one " has a better sensor and for the LOVE OF GOD a Xenon flash, i will upgrade.
Phone cams are stuck at a brick wall with no xenon flash. Tiz why nokias piss all over the competition.
The m8 compared to m7 just is enough to change IMO.
I work in a phone repairs company. The iphones and samsungs are the phones we get with the most damaged screens as opposed to other brands. For instance I rarely see a blackberry with a broken screen.
An iphone tends to shatter when dropped, while a samsung will get crack lines on the LCD beneath the touch screen if it ever lands on one of the corners. Then I don't understand the price of the samsung considering how cheaply they're made inside out.
I don't want to be suck in a 2 year contract with an old phone
With that type of phone I'd recommend getting insurance for it.
I like the note 3 but having held it, its just a bit too big.
That thing is huge, and the screen may also break just by being carried in a tight jeans pocket. Nice if you use it as sat nav and great camera but that's about it.

cheers for the opinions guys I appreciate it, I hate looking for phones thats why I stuck with my current iPhone for so long and got it the day after it came out for £300 sim free from someone who didnt want their upgrade;)
Muz Im sorry its not a 4s I'm an idiot its just the 4
As for android over iOS I use both as I have a Nexus 7 but I am heavily invested in iOS with apps etc but no way do I want to get a 5s when the 6 is coming later this year but no doubt it will be £££ on release as usual and I dont know if I can wait that long :/
I think its a decision between the HTC M8/Samsung S5/Sony Z2
An other kind of rookie question with all this 4g lark, I don't live in a city but you get more data with the 4g plans, esp on vodafone, if you cant get 4g signal can you use the data plan on 3g? Say I get 4gb of 4g data a month - can that be used with a 3g signal? If that makes sense lol
Only reason is I frequently use up the paltry 1gb I get currently on O2 so I figure 2 or 3GB a month would be better for me but on 3g plans its £40+ a month whereas I've seen a 2gb 4g plan for £37

Yeh the data you get you can use on 4G/3G/G/H/E whatever signal you get. When I changed from orange to a 4G EE plan they said even if you don't get 4G where you live, it will improve your signal overall which it did, somehow.
Only thing I'd be careful of is if you ever want to reduce your contract down in price in the future, some 4G plans don't allow it.
I'd get the M8 personally, even if it isn't much better than the first model. Looks good and does everything it should, however I'd say Samsung do better quality cameras. It's personal preference though.

Bet you are flooding with Iphone repairs. I get quite a few to do via facebook. I like doing Iphone 5's as they are a piece of cake to do.

It must be pure luck in if an iphone screen breaks.. Or people not having a case.. My 4s, i've dropped more than a few times drunk, and most that's ever happened is i've broken the corner off cases, and one little mark on the metal bumper of the phone!
I'll be waiting for the iPhone 6 this year.. I got my 4S just before the 5 came out because my phone was stolen on holiday, so i needed a phone ASAP, and just missed having an iPhone..
My friend has a HTC One, and it looks decent though.

Flooding is the word I guess. It really feels like the phone is designed to break when slipping out of your hand and falling on the floor.

It's been in a case from day 1, and been dropped loads of times, with like you say mainly damage to the case, so the back is spotless....sadly when it was dropped this time it landed face down hence the cracked screen :geek:
I'm going to go to phones 4u tomorrow at currys-pcworld just to have a look and have a play with the S5/M8/Z2 to see how they feel...
One thing I read when looking at reviews of the S5 on knowyourmobile.com was that they think there will be another incarnation of the S5 released later this year as they have apparently called this one the S5 Prime
I don't know whether to just get a new screen off eBay and try replacing it myself and waiting it out till later this year for the new iPhone and poss new Samsung or just bite the bullet and get one now....
Are the screens easy to replace on the 4?
Ps. Muz how much you offering?

I have a Sony Xperia Z2. iPhones and Galaxy S4/S5 simply do not compared.
By FAR the best phone I have ever had!

Having had a play with the phones today whilst swatting away over zealous sales mongs, I found the Samsung S5 build quality to be so cheap and plasticy compared to the HTC M8 and the Sony Z2 so its most likely between those 2 now as I imagine only a few knocks with the S5 even in a case will cause it some nice damage and I do drop my phone sometimes, which is why I'm surprised my iPhone 4 has lasted 4 years with no major damage lol
I'm still tempted to just get it repaired though and wait for the iphone 6 :homme:
I'm the worlds worst decision maker haha :panic:

One of the blokes at work has gone from an iPhone to a Samsung S4 IIRC and he's regreting it... the camera is better and it's great for watching movies and all that shit, but apart from that, he misses his iPhone.
I'm turning into an Apple whore tbh - just get the iPhone repaired and see what the new 6 is like whenever that comes out :y:

To be fair, I know in Middlesbrough, the asian blokes in the market will fix an iphone 4 screen for £50ish.. I've thought a few times to jump ship, but i just like the iOS so will stick with it, why change from something you're happy with is what i think to myself..
Will seem like a massive jump for me, going from 4S, to 6..

Thats my thoughts Smiith like I mentioned I'm more invested in iOS with quite a few paid apps and such, and I'm happy to tinker around with my Nexus 7 for an android fix. I'm just sick of my 4 being so slow, ie facebook on it is diabolical it takes for ever to scroll down my news feed
