Best road legal 2 stoke bike?

The sun has inspired me and I fancy a new play bike :p I am after a small ish probably 250cc 2 stroke bike I can mess about offroad yet still have it registered for the road. Any recommendations as I have not played on a dirt bike in years.

LOL at the Madass they would be great fun though don't think its really what I am after. The RGV is a great bike and I was toying with the idea. I was also looking at Aprilia RS250s but thought I'm thinking offroad will keep me out of trouble.
