Ok so at what do you decide that the rust has taken over and its time to let go?

Ive got a 2000 vts and im trying my hardest not to scrap it. thought of reshelling it but the problem is finding a vts shell.

I know it doesnt have to be a vts shell but i know that if i get another shell it will no longer be a vts if that makes sense.

Oh my poor little car we did everything together and i think i owe it a good go at getting it back on the road but every panel i remove reveals more rust.

nearside rear inner arch has rotten at the top where the seatbelt mount is
nearside rear arch near boot floor rotten
nearside rear sills rotten.

offside rear arch rotten near boot floor
offside rear sill rotten
offside front sill rotten
offside front floor pan rotten.

DOOMED!!

Id call it a day. Theres still plenty of vts kicking about for sale for what it would cost you to sort that to a good standard

i was gunna tackle it as a project but it keeps kicking me in the knackers at every turn. bloody things never let me down in the 6 years ive owned it and i tret it to a brand new rear axle less that 5000 miles ago.

Im going to have to give it a go, at least i can say i tried :(

If you've got the time, the space and the skill to weld it up it's always worth keeping imo.

Don't think I will ever have to scrap a car now due to rot :)

well im a fully qualified mechanic and can weld (to a degree) but i rebuild more engines and welding jobs are very few and far between i think i just to make loads of mistakes and i should get there in the end. never taken on this much welding before and its a bit daunting.

How much is membership i may start a project thread so you guys can give me the gentle encouragment needed.

You don't need to pay for membership to have a project thread :)

I know what you mean though, I'm a qualified welder but useless mechanic so it's vice versa for me
