Hi peeps,
As mentioned in my introduction thread, i have recently bought a Saxo 1.1 Forte as a cheap runaround whilst my FTO is down for maint, but it has some mechanical problems...

Namely, it overheated badly and refused to hold water, so i changed the head gasket (for £25 would be silly not to) but found that the head gasket actually appeared to be intact, on removing the water pump found that the bearings inside it had collapsed causing the impellers to get knocked off and flow down inside the block around the liners!, took me a good hour or so to fish them all out.

So once that was done i timed it all up, put a new cambelt and water pump on, and it started briefly before cutting out and now it refuses to start all unless you disconnect the SPI unit and spin the engine over to dry out the chambers, as the excess fuel disperses it will pick up slightly but wont run under its own power.

Im almost certain it is overfueling on start, it was running when i got it so either ive left something unplugged or something else has gone wrong, has anybody had similar problems or could possibly advise me on what to try yet?.

many thanks peeps
Steve

Also, i've reset the timing atleast 4 times now, just double checking to make sure it hasnt jumped a tooth or something. and prior to its first start i turned it over by hand to make sure nothing was catching.

You've probably upset the wet liners fishing the crap out of the block

How briefly did it run for.. Seconds, minutes?

Fixed it peeps, turns out i was using the wrong timing mark (the one on the crank pulley), re-timed it using the hole in the flywheel it runs like a champ now, was probably 2 teeth behind on the timing so im surprised there was no lasting damage.
