Fuck my life man.

Right, 106 conversion, VTS. Sorted the short I was having last week playing havoc with the ignition, although it ran during that anyway, and all is hunky dory. I've refitted the bumper and trim etc, and actually drove it a short distance yesterday. All was well. Went to reverse it back into the garage, and I stalled it.

It then refused to start, cranks all day, but the immobilizer light flashes on the 2nd turn of igniton and the fuel pump doesn't prime. After about 20 mins it fired up and all was well. During these 20 minutes I was reading up about unlocking 3 plug cars by disconnecting the immobilizer box. So, with it running, I moved it in front of the house and let it warm up so it wouldn't risk stalling, then went to disconnect the immobiliser. Didnt even get as far as the plug, literally as I touched the black box the car just cut out dead.

Non start since, I've changed the transponder pick up in case that was fucked again, so I have 2 new ones and neither make a difference. I've left the battery off overnight, and this morning checked all the earths on the car and the fuel pump connection and relay connection. Everything on the car works, there are no fuses blown, and nothing to suggest a wiring problem elsewhere, hazards, lights, wipers etc all operational. I've rechecked the earths again for like the 100th time, they're fine.

After leaving it overnight when I went to attempt to start it the fuel pump relay clicked say 4 or 5 times rapidly, subsequent attempts it just clicks once.

WTF lol. Any ideas. I've messaged Cam and he reckons it won't be the ECU locked, he says he thinks a bad wire or earth.

Only other thing that could be out of the ordinary, is that the coolant temp gauge red light is lit when the 2nd stage ignition is on and the immobiliser light is flashing. Thing is I don't know for sure whether it was before or not anyway. I suspect it wasn't, and sometimes it goes out slowly.

Bah, this fuckers just out to twist my melon I'm sure of it.

I've just been out to check the temperature sensor wiring, but before I did thought I'd check whether it was coming on or not for definite.

Fucking fuel pump primes on ignition and it starts on the key. I've whipped the immobiliser box off sharpish so that's done at least, and then knocked it off and checked it starts, turn of the key.

So, whilst that's all very well and good, I think it was a symptom of an underlying issue. Just sat in it for a few seconds to let it idle, and the coolant temperature gauge is doing a merry dance between rock cold and normal temperature, except the car is obviously stone cold.

Any ideas? I'm not happy that it's "fixed" there's clearly a problem, I've just solved the immobiliser not being fired up by removing it I suspect.

I had a slightly similar issue on a mates car years ago, turned out the battery +ve cable was beefed: the solder at the big junction where the cable splits to go to the starter and the other way to the fusebox had chucked it. Car ran, temperature was pinging about, then it wouldnt run, then after being left for hours would start and run no problem.

That said, the clicking is usually indicative of a shite earth. Id go round them all, clean them up and grease them.
