Exhaust Laws help

So tonight I got pulled over for a few reasons, one for fog lights being on (I had them on for taking some pics next to my mates car and forgot to turn them off), speeding (1am in the morning and instead of braking from 60 to 30, I just free wheeled but was still going about 40 when I went into the 30 zone) but finally, my exhaust is too loud.
Fortunately he let me off and said if he sees me again, he'll ticket me. I can understand the first 2 points, BUT my question is, what is the law on exhaust modifications and loudness? All I can find online is that ANY modifications which makes it louder than standard is illegal?! Is that right? I know theres a noise limit too but what is it? And it goes down at 11pm is it?
Just wondering where I stand on this :)

As for the exhaust, I believe there is actually a noise limit on the UK roads of 74db, just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time most of the time.

The MOT testing rules states something like an exhaust must not be excessively louder than a similar vehicle with a standard silencer. As for police law, im not sure but I had a mate that got a ticket for his scoobie being too loud. Even though he was booked in at the garage the next day to change it to a quieter one.

A bloke down the road just had his kit car SVA'd and I'm sure it had to be sub 95db, he filled his silencers with wire wool, he didn't have his fog lights on though, or his neons, and he wasn't speeding

exhaust rulz though are understandable, shit cars with hairdryer engines have no need to be loud, this on the other hand is the loudest car out of the factory i've ever heard, it also sounds like hell

According to my decibel app :homme: idling is around 83db and it goes as high as 120+ revving. Not sure if legit though. I need to buy a proper one.

Mines a 4-2-1, straight through centre pipe and then sniper 3" back box and it peaks at 104db
