Doubt it. My driving skills are alot better than my engine fixing ones lol. Been driving long enough. not to much damage. Needs a rad. Fan. Bumper hit a rock. Bend the bottom of the car though.
car's fucked then.
My driving skills are alot better .
indeed, only took you five days since purchase.
Been driving long enough
how long?

Long enough. 18 years. Went round bend. Hit a bump. Back end slid. Next thing i know i was down a banking. Roads were wet. Couldnt do much about it. Wasnt going overly fast.
t
still got to give it a bit of stick to lose it like that, unless your suspension setup was really that rubbish.

To be totally honest i cant remember how fast i was going. I do blame the suspension though. Been on that road 100s of times.

So funny when people blame their car - you were driving too fast for the conditions obviously or it wouldn't have happened..

well clearly something was amiss, but that said, if he's bought the car off a yoof who's lowered the ream beam 410mm and wedged standard shocks in, and left the bump stops in place, there's probably not a lot that could have been done once it decided it was away.

In hindsight obviously !!! But guarenteed driving a normal car with normal suspension at the same speed it wouldnt of happpened. Live and learn as they say. Not to bothered. Just glad it didnt roll

Least you came out of it OK chap, they're not the most robust little things, although they do flatpack easily and fit into most overhead storage compartments.

no suspension and comedy tyres, what a death trap. The front end is the least of your problems, scrap it before you kill yourself.

Looking at that i would replace the beam, decent dampers all around, new droplinks, top mounts/bearings, decent springs, new lower arms the lot basically so all is new and fresh and decent tyres.
or just push it on and change cars if you can't justify it.

I may of bought a death trap but not gonna spend 100s on it. It will come for banger racing

My black saxo was probably around that low perhaps a bit more with 30mm front springs in, in the 6 months I was driving it I never give it proper shit, purely because matched with budget mismatched tyres in the damp I could end up sideways on most roundabouts lol

So from the pic would people say the torsion bar has been lowered to its limit. And how much should the back end be highered by. Baring in mind the front is also low

It isn't "bollox" because you were driving too fast in the wet. Which means you do have poor driving skills & judgement.

Well obviously i know going around a wet bent doing 70 is very dangerous. ( not that i was doing anywhere near that speed ) funny thing is i went back to the place where i crashed and it was hardly a bend. Not even a 11 o clock angle. Which leads me to the comment about someone saying suspension is on the bumpstops. My main downfall is i have never had a lowered car before and presumed they handled better. But obviously if the suspension dont "bounce" cos its bottomed out i think thats the main reason why the back end went as i turned front wheels into the bend. Live and learn. Could of been worse and i could of toppled it

So you didn't have the driving skills to handle a lowered car is what you are saying?
D4MJT
11th July 2014, 11:01
Ultimately, unless a wheel has fallen off etc and given that no other cars were involved, it basically has to be driver error, but then I don't really think you're disputing that, just saying that the circumstances potentially contributed to it.
Observations:
That car is WAY too low. Lowered cars handling better is one thing, but one with little to no suspension travel is clearly going to be compromised. My suspicions would be that the car bottomed out, stepped out and caught you unaware, given you're saying you've driven the road before and there's not much of a turn etc.
Also, previous driving experience doesn't really apply if you're in something entirely different. On the flip side you could easily say that a few years of driving scoobies has given you a false sense of security, and coming from 4wd to a fwd with suspension travel is going to be completely different.
There's little point everyone jumping on the bandwagon and suggesting your driving is crap etc though, no-one here has seen your driving or the road in question.
Experience +1, move on.

You are right, it's a bit of both.
But at the end of the day, you don't just fly off the road into a ditch going 30mph round a slight bend do you?!

Looking at the clip of the car, and assuming it was wet, I'd say it was entirely possible, and increasingly moreso if your speed and local road knowledge meant you were completely not expecting it.
I'm not defending some random chaps hooning here, but if he's not got experience of a lowered car, been unfortunate enough to land one (excuse the pun) that's been "slammed" and then caught out by it, that's a set of circumstances that could easily befall anyone else.

11th July 2014, 11:12
I'll happily take the mick out of anyone, and touch wood so far I've never crashed a car. Given the amount of miles I do, and how I "enjoy" driving rather than do it as a necessity, I'd say I'd be unbelievably fortunate if I don't bend something at some point in my driving career.
At that point, I don't want to have been too "holier than thou" previously, because when and if it does eventually happen, chances are that to some extent there will always have been something I could have done differently to avoid it lol.
Unrelated, and a completely different kettle of fish, but it puts a different spin on the "static slammed" brigade doesn't it. I get it's for looks and you're not going to drive it like you would something built for performance, but the wrong place and time...

No bollox now i was traveling through a housing estate a few days before this happened. And it had give ways in road. Im sure the back end started to slide then also. So i will be going extra careful in the rain. Had to fix and drive it for now cos the clutch in my galaxy went the day after the crash. So not having a good week with cars. 1 accident in 17 years aint a bad record. And i didnt comr from a scooby to a saxo. That would be enough for someone to top themselves haha. I had a astra before this.

My neighbour has a Scooby, some centre diff'd import thing, it's fast, and fun.
He regularly comments on much fun my little 106 is, usually with a slightly sorrowful expression while the scooby is away for another engine rebuild :homme:
