What is the best polish to use when polishing by hand?
Are there any specific pads, microfibres to be using?
I've been using poorboys ssr2.5 with a foam applicator and removing with a microfibre cloth but the swirls seem to be getting worse :/
Any help?

make sure the car is totally clean first. When your washing it, a quick google search will show you all the best things to do. snow foam first, two buckets, lambs wool mitt etc.
I use a micro fibre to apply and another to buff off, never had any issues with swirls to be honest.

Wash
Clay
Polish with a polish that will hide the swirls srp is good at that.
Or a machine polish.
I prefer not to use foam applicators too.

i would first establish why the scratches are getting worse.
They shouldn't really.

Is the car the black one in your avatar?
I'd sugest that farecla wax remover shampoo from halfords, that'll strip the lot off
then lash a few layers of poorboys black hole on!
If halfords havea 3 for 2 on get some of the wassfle aplicators by farecla, they are sweet
just re reading what danny has said, I actually put the wax on the BM with my bare hands like a pervert
but it's metallic grey so I can get away with allsorts
