Last Sunday night I went up to the MK-Cruise via the side entrance and about 20 police officers were flagging cars into a smaller car park on left of the stadium.. they wanted to check my window tints?

So having heard this i wound down my windows and got out of my car.. One police officer showed me a device called 'The Tintman'. The officer held a small black cylinder on the inside of my window and on the outside and measured the amount of light coming through.. he told me that 75% of light is the legal requirement that has to come through any car window.. but in fact only 36% was.

He did this on the front two side windows only, and wrote me a form out explaning that i needed to get them taken off by a weeks time.. He also explained that I have to ring up a number (that he gave me) and get another police officer to come and check my bloody car to make sure I had taken them off! What should I do?

Thanks, its a bit of an essay :P

By the sounds of it mate you only have one choice.
Thats take it off! Then have it redone if you want them tinted again!

if they are film tint just rip them off.if you have had the windows dipped then you need new windows. but you will need to get rid of them to make the piggy happy.

What should I do?

What do you mean? The police have already told you what you need to do. :ponder:

They are only filmed tints. That makes it a bit easier for me i suppose.
Does anyone know what penalty they would likely give if I dont take take them off?

For instance 3 points or a £60 fine?

Id do that, at lewast till the police have OK'd them. Then if u want the windows tinted again u can swap them back for the tinted ones!

Nice to see the police are performing their role of "annoying the piss out of society without doing anything of benifit" well then. 20 police officers? Can someone explain to me why I haven't seen any police on patrol around here in agggggggggeeeeeeeessssssssssss. Waste of time/money/oxygen

Well... as people have said. There's not much else you can do. To have aftermarket film applied to your front side windows is considered illegal and they have proved this. Have them removed and then have them re-checked. You're very lucky that they were on your side as in "giving you the option to take the car home and sort the windows out". Many people I know have been told there and then to remove the tints or the car stays with them.

I've never been pulled over for my tinted windows yet *touches wood*

thats the best thing to do mate then a few weeks after put them back in again and be abit more carefull when you go to cruises

yeah, sounds like theres no choice but to take them off mate. i wouldn't be risking not doing it, if they do check your shit out of luck

apparently if you wind down your windows, the police cannot in any way tell you to wind them up for them to do the check. its something to do with human rights or something. just something for future reference if you are thinking of tinting again.

So having heard this i wound down my windows and got out of my car.. One police officer showed me a device called 'The Tintman'.

didn't seem to help much, mind you if you don't know they're not really allowed to do it you're not going to argue with them

sorry didnt read ALL the posts lol, but yeah if you didnt know it at the time then no point arguing!

well i wouldn't have known about it mate lol, so nice one for pointing it out. still not sure i'd want to kick up to much of a fuss

then you argue with them and they'll get arsey about cook up some bullshit that enables them to impound your car (they can do this very easily now with all thier new powers under the police reform act) and spend a good few hours going over the car finding as many things as they can thats illegal with the car then you'll end up in a whole load of shit just for some tinted windows

so the only things you can do is either take them out and keep them out or take a trip down to the breakers yard grab some untinted windows and put them in then after a few weeks put your tinted ones back in and be abit more carefull around the police

Id just take them off personally. Least they gave you a chance and didnt just give you a £30 fine there and then. The laws the law, a fair warning is good enough, theyre doing their job.

Its not always just police on theyre normal duty ganging up on people, every now and then a shift will be given overtime and work a rest day for particular operations which theyre being paid to do that specific thing.

Its good to see they are stopping crime. Whilst you are ruining peoples lives with your dreadful dark windows innocent little immigrants are coming into the country, and nice little boys in Addidas track suits are outside breaking into my car. But its ok because they will come round two days later to take some details.
