Right, so spinning off my last post...

Had my front wheel off and was gna do the brakes until ( see my other post) and noticed out all over the wishbone and inside the wheel.

Looked and there was a split ring dangling loose, and the rubber boot near the wheel (outer cv boot? ... not sure.on names of parts) had slid back to expose what looked like a metal ball i guess)

Is this called the outer cv joint? (The rubber is like a corrugated funnel shape)

If i put the rubber back, will i be ok to run it for a while.. i know its probably got full of shit by now.. had the other cv done at a garage a while back, but think if i end up needing to do this one im gna man up and do it myself.

cheers

Cheers

Had this happen to me and i tried to cheat by re-packing it with grease, and zip tie-ing the boot back on. Two days later, the shaft failed, luckily in my street.

My advice, buy a new drive shaft there megga cheap nowadays. J&R shafts on ebay are top notch for the price.

If the boots split, and the grease is all over the wishbone back of the hub etc, then the shafts most likely gone, you could get away with it, but then again you might not. Who knows how long the shafts been running with no grease.

If its passenger side drive shaft, id buy a new shaft and replace it. whilst your at it replace the gearbox seal and throw in some new fresh oil.

If its drivers side, its a tad harder, as you need to pull the shaft out of the intermediate bearing housing, and they can be a right cunt.
