New to the site not sure if I'm on the right page.

I have a Saxo 1.5 diesel 2000 X plate with full service history so it has had regular oil/filter/fuel filter changes and a cam belt and water pump 10,000 miles ago plus a set of glow plugs.

The car starts first time and if you let it warm up for five minutes and don't touch the accelerator it drives and idles without fault. If you try and drive it while cold the fun starts......the engine dies and smokes from the exhaust which I guess has something to do with excess fuel while I keep trying to restart.

I have searched through the net and found some answers.....I purchased a wax stat (fast idle device) as my local parts supplier and main dealer list but on this car there is a blanking plate where it should go so I presume Citroen have made a modification and these are only fitted on older cars. Another possibility I guess is air getting into the fuel system but if it was wouldn't it run poorly when warm? Is the temperature sensor linked the ECU on this model, could that be the problem? Another point to note is that when cold the idle position is the same as when warm, I would expect it to idle a little quicker when cold.

Has anybody got any advice? I would expect it to be a serious problem as the car is 1 owner, well serviced and only done 63,000 miles.....I had heard that these engines were good for many miles.

Thanks for your help.

Should read 'Has anybody got any advice? I wouldn't expect it to be a serious problem as the car is 1 owner, well serviced and only done 63,000 miles.....I had heard that these engines were good for many miles'

I have a similar problem with my 106 GTI, on cold weather, i have to push the gas pedal during 30-40 seconds, until the error light of engine gets off.. then it turns to normal.. and in summer, i am not having any problems.. sorry for my poor english :)

how about your error light on dial screen?
