Evening everyone,
So basically, I work for Ancaster selling Nissans. They have a staff leasing scheme where you pay 'x' amount for a year and then give the car back at the end - every car except the GTR is on the plan as far as I know. You can get a 370Z NISMO on the scheme for £420 odd a month for a year, and the other day my boss was just like 'You should do it mate!'
I took it as a joke, but for the sheer stupidity I did an insurance quote on the car. It turned out I can get insured on one for like £1k. Shit got serious haha.
Just wondering what's everyone's thoughts on it? Would you do it in my situation? No kids, mortgage and all that bullshit to spend money on? Just me and my dick to keep tbh. I'd put the grand odd down at the start of the year and then the 'only' expenditure would be the leasing cost and juice, and I'm really struggling not think of reasons not to...
I have a company car and still have the 106 so probably do £200 a month in juice in those, but that would go down with a third car as I woud barely use the 106 and do less mileage in the daily. I'm saving for a mortgage, but just so tempted to take the 'Meh, fuck it' approach as I know I'll regret it if I don't when I can...
Anywho.. thoughts on the car? Should I do it? Any feedback appreciated!

If you were earning £421 a month then no I wouldn't recommend it :homme:
Depends how much you earn a month! I've never been a fan of the 350/370s tbh , but they do sound quite nice on the road.
£420 a month is a big chunk though, and you give the car back at the end of the year. Youre basically paying £420 a month to save wear and tear on your current car which I'm sure it isnt costing you that in wear and tear.
Youd be better off saving and then buying or just buying on finance, an older, 2nd hand 350z I would say then you can keep it at the end.

Ahh, I bet your boss, started work there as a salesman. (and seems like he's still selling dreams)
Your saving up so you can get a mortgage. Just think of the deposit you can save for faster without the extra £420 per month, + the insurance.
No brainer really. ;);)

Personally think it would be daft to spend £420 a month on a lease car that doesn't even include insurance.
It's a lovely car but it's not like it'll be yours, £420 a month is like 5 grand a year, to me that's a lot of money... 5 grand that I would certainly prefer to spend on other shit! I'd need to be on probably 35k a year to warrant spending that much on a lease car.
Guess it's up to you though and how much you earn etc, if you earn less than 25k even considering it is nuts.

No thanks

more like over 500 a month if you include the insurance. That a lot of money not to own a nissan.
probably do £200 a month in juice
ah, so over 700 a month then. Sounding silly much yet?

I can't believe I'm actually going to use Manu as a positive reference here, but he has a valid point. That would genuinely be near on £700 a month (£8,400 for the year) to simply rent a car, and have literally nothing at the end of it. Sounds ludicrous to me. If I had cash to burn, and it was a more appealing car, then why not. But seeing as you said you're saving for a deposit, it just seems silly to me.

Don't do it. It'll be good for a month or 2 until the novelty of having a nice new car wears off then you're stuck paying shit loads and a car you probably didn't want that much in the first place.

I know at toyota the salesmen can have what thy want from the brochures so long as sale able afterwards

You have to be really careful with them though, through work I looked at a getting a BMW 3-Series m sport diesel but over the three year term we could only do a total of 18k so 6 l a year, when the wife averages 1k a month it was just a stupid idea

I work in sales as I said in my OP so on a good month I can be clearing a nice amount, on quieter months it can be a bit painful in honesty compared to what could've been. I've just had a payrise and will be doing the Motability side of things soon, so that's extra dollar as well. Fair point though matey, ta!

Yeah fair point matey it was just an initial "Ooooh... something to think about" once I saw the insurance quote tbh. I can't really justify running three cars - I barely use the 106 at present now I have a derv Juke that is so comfy, has heated seats and sips juice in comparison. It's always the things you don't do you regret, but I want a house as well haha.

It's one of the things I'd been considering in honesty... I'd be spending alot of my disposable income on a car I'd never own. They do look cool IMO, but I'd also be doing it to piss a few people off - bloody expensive method though haha.
Hahahaha how fucking stupid do you have to be to even be thinking about this?
You sell cars you say?
When you're 23, can afford (maybe not fully justify, but still afford it) to do it and just give the keys back, there is one part of me that just says "Fuck it, why the hell not?!"
It is alot of car for the money really, just not sure if I'd regret it financially in a year or so's time.
with that kind of money you got get a real good minter on finance mate... and have change in your pocket
I have had an urge for a Meggy F1 or LCR Mk1 for a while so when I need the money, I have the assets to sell up and buy a house, but with no servicing, tax or any of that bullshit, the leasing seemed tempting lol.

Aye now you've laid it out like that mate, it does look alot for nowt to show at the end. Would even consider going nuts on the 106 and have something to show actually...
Can you not change your company car to it?

My dealership isn't a performance centre, so the most expensive car we run is a 30k X-Trail, and that's my Sales Managers car. Even the dealership that runs them only use them for demos and occasionally let the sales guys out in them as far as I know. They'd get too much mileage on them in no time otherwise lol. Sounds like a good deal Toyota have got though! :y:

Yeah I hadn't really considered the finance route as I've got a few quid in the bank atm but I know I'd need to read the smallprint... there'd be a high chance of bringing it back after a year and the thing being worth about 20p with the mileage I'd put on it haha.
So for a little more you could actually OWN a nice E46 M3? No brainer.
Blimey I've just had a look at the prices of M3's and they are coming down since I last looked! Maybe time for a re-think... thanks again everyone!

Although initially seeming like a bad idea, depends on your monthly disposable income.
There must be a mileage restriction on the deal as well if its for a year?
I would have thought a 370Z Nismo will probably drop between £8k-£9k in depreciation after the first year if you bought one brand new so from that perspective £5k to lease one isn't as bad as what some of your customers probably do.
For that £5k though, you could buy your own 350Z coupe which will be as fun as any new 370z and you won't need to give it away after 12 months. Just factor in money for maintenanace/ parts ets :y:
(and as mentioned above slightly more money would get you an E46 M3 which is a truly awesome machine!)

This was one of the things that was pointed out to me by one of the guys at work - when I have a mortgage, bills and kids to pay for, the option to blow ~£400 a month on a car will probably go out the window.
My monthly outgoings are probably about £350 or so - that's fuel, rent and phone bills. I probably take home (on average - I work on commission with a reasonable basic) ~£2,000 a month after tax - this should rise once I'm set up with the Motability system.
I'd need to look into the mileage limit on these things tbh... I wouldn't be using it a great deal as I'd let the derv daily work as much as possible... but then there'd be little/no point in having a third car... :panic:

Griff how many units are you doing a month?
Personaly is save an but an older one, save hard for three years and you will be in proper decent car territory
I'm just moving in to sales and although my out going are a lot more than yours im still looking to be able to save £3-400 a month and buy a car almost outright in three to four years time

You would soon get sick of paying for something you don't own I've allways saved up and bought what I wanted when it comes to cars there's loads of people at work who call my car old (05 to be fair is quite old) but they all lease/finance which anyone can go out and do if you like that sort of thing.
You could allways try it for a year I suppose.

Hiya buddy - January I was set a target of 4 new and 6 used IIRC. Think I did 5 new and 6 used, but the targets are set slightly lower for Jan/Feb as it's the changeover for the new plate in March. I've sold alot more cars this month but the cars either aren't coming through until March or the customers are insisting they take the car on a '15' plate. Frustrating, but I have a target of 21 in March so it's good to get them in the bank.
To be honest unless I'd lease the car for a year or go for a LCR/Meg R26 (where in that case I'd pay for it outright), I wouldn't bother saving for a car like that. It's far too convenient to put my money in, not worry about tax, maintenance or any of that bollocks and then give the keys back in 12 months. I never had any intention of saving for one, just burn around in a leased one for a year haha. The money would be far better in savings or stocks/shares, which is another option I'm looking into.
My little mind does work in strange ways... :homme:
