Can be done pretty quick, but like everything double the time you think!

Did mine the other day took around 7 hours but I had to take the brakes from my old axel and came across some snags, just make sure you have a torque wrench and plenty of wd40 also and hub and bearing puller if your swapping hubs over

this ^^ getting the actual axle off is a piss of piece, it's swapping everything over that's an arse :n:

Rounded unions and shit pipes all add to it. Knackered bleed nipples are a worry too

If you know how/have the equipment to make brake lines I would just snip the lines off the axle rather than try and save/swap them, save a bit of fannying around to save some old brake lines that you will eventually chew up.

I gave the underside of mine a good clean and a fresh lick of paint+underseal before I refitted the new axle. Worth it while you have a bit of access and the car jacked up

with two guys it shouldn't take long at all, ive had beams off cars in under 5 min in breakers

The beam/axles all painted up n ready to rock. Its a complete unit with brakes lines, hubs discs and pads. Im hoping its going to be relatively straight forward and have allowed 6 hours to do it.
Start around nine and MOT booked for half three...fingers crossed.

Take four...got sidelined by the state of front brakes..out came the drill. Luckily all the bleed nipples free'd up nicely tho.Parts on order ready for another day.Doing a fluid flush too whilst stems open.
CV boot split on the drivers side covering everything in a nice gritty paste.
Drop link on same side has a split gaitor/boot too. No obvious movement tho.

Question:how do you remove the lower balljoit without totally fecking the ball joint boot?..

Undo the pinch bolt and put some weight on it. Alternatively you can remove the centre wishbone bolt and a couple of taps with a rubber mallet will move it

confused...do you mean that if i remove the centre bolt and tap the wishbone it'll remove the balljoint?.

Also ..what size bolt do i use as a 'pinch' bolt?..originals stripped. And where do i get it from?

And another...does the actual balljoint unbolt from the arm or is it a complete, and expense wishbone??

Thought you meant remove the ball joint at the strut.

You can put new ball joints in but in needs to be hammered out and pressed in. Can be done with a vice and socket

its a bit different taking the axle off a car you don't give a shit about though its more time consuming if you care about your car and don't want to rip stuff off it lol
