Hi guys,
When pulling away, theres a knock/bang but i cant pinpoint it.
Its as if the weight transfer is pushing something out of place, was thinking a gearbox mount maybe? Its not a creak, but i wouldnt rule suspension out but feels/sounds more central than struts, mrs says she can feel it on her side in the footwell.
Its not every time but getting more frequent, getting a bit brown pants now.

Ill add the box is on its way out, sounds like a bad cv joint that sort of whirring friction noise but had them done last year. Got under it the other day, boots are dry both sides so ruled cv out. Top up box oil is on to do list. Also had wheels balanced. Defo internal problem, but more worried about the knocking.

Any ideas where to start, and is it safe to drive?

could be bottom wishbone bolts loose there are two under the carpet on each side maybe they have come loose, its the two that hold the rear of the wishbone onto the car body.

Is it not your brake binding on? I've had this with a few cars including he Saxo. Sliders are ceasing up and when you move the and the pad finally releases it goes pop.

could be wishbones, i had them replaced last year, maybe they weren't done up tight enough? had entire wishbones put on with new bushes etc.

i'll check the brakes, but they don't really get used in that i use them purely to 'stop', i drive properly and go down through the gears. it had new brakes all round last year greased and bled, and would a brake issue not be something that would come gradually i.e would i not feel them 'start' to stick? the car will move before the bang.

I'm guessing the best thing to do would be to get under it properly and see where there's play? Just a process of elimination now. To fix brake issue, is it just a matter of remove and re grease?
Will i feel play in the wishbones or should i just nip the under carpet bolts up, any ideas for torque settings?

Thanks guys. Whenever i have a problem you always seem to be on the case Mick!

I could be wrong, but doesn't that exhaust mount on the gearbox often corrode/snap? The exhaust could be hitting the bodywork or something, I'm sure I had a problem like that before and it made quite a bang sometimes.

pretty sure it'll be the gearbox mount.
