Help needed, hi guys need your help my saxo w reg 1.1 battery ran flat after not using it for 6 weeks so removed the battery and charged it , once fully charged i replaced it with positive first but once I connected the negative, sparks began to happen then the live lead started to smoke so I disconnected it right away , I changed the alternator and the same thing happened, stripped the live wire from loom, rewrapped in insulation tape the live fully to ensure no contact with anything, same thing happened again sparks live hot ,starting motor works fine, no faults before battery went flat, the battery has been connected right as well completely stuck any advice.

Take the battery out and call an auto electrician.

Allways connect negativ first!

Everything was done correct negative first but as soon as positive was put sparks and smoke appeared from the live feed , cant work it out

seems to me like there is somewhere a short between the + and ground. shorts usually cause smoke in any electrical / electronic equipment. i guess it can be checked with a multimeter. If you haven't done it before call an auto electrician like advised by stevo67

Sorted the problem the battery had reversed it polarity after I charged it hence sparks New battery fitted started straight away happy days
