Hello Saxp,
I’ve got a question regarding exhausts. I’ve been offered a manifold back decat exhaust from a Mk1 VTS for a decent price, it might sound stupid, but am I right in thinking this will bolt straight on to my Mk2 VTR and still be catted (with the Mk2 cat being in the manifold/downpipe)? Some people have said it will bolt straight on and be perfectly legal, whilst others have told me that the fitment is different and because the exhaust doesn’t have a visible cat, it will still be illegal.
I’m trying to pin down an answer before I purchase it. I don’t have much experience with the Mk1, I have always owned Mk2s.
Cheers.

the cats are underneath on mk1s so the decat and exhaust should fit your downpipe and still remain catted (after all its in the manifold on a mk2 and you arent removing this as its a 16v manifold you have been offered so no use to you on an 8v).
Im not sure if there are any different fitments when it comes to decat between the mk1s and mk2s as all the stuff i've used is mk1 due to the car I have but looks like they have a similar length and right size flanges though so I cant see why not?

Thanks for the reply. That was my original thought. Since the Mk1 has the cat under the car, and the Mk2 has the car in the downpipe, we could fit a decat Mk1 to a Mk2 exhaust and it would still be catted.
It’s just a case of checking that a Mk1 VTS exhaust will fit a Mk2 VTR. If it does – we’re in business.

What about the mountings of the exhaust to the car? So the brackets and rubbers etc. Were they all the same too?
