View Full Version : steering rack ...feels loose and makes some noises need help

the nuckle part were the track rod ends go in to lifts up when i go left and makes a clunking noise first i fought was the drop links or somthing so i changed wishbones ,, drop links , inner and outer track rods .. done top mount bearings and noise had gone but then started in the engine bay then my mate noticed the nuckle bit jumping up when going left so need help as it failed its mot on it nocking

Sorry what knuckle bit are you referring to? If you can get the car up in the air you should soon be able to work out what bit is nocking. These cars are getting to the point now that just about any part can be warn. Any bearing, push or ball joint could be the culprit. Once you track it down it should be a relatively easy fix. Sometimes even jacking the car up and dropping it back down will highlight the location of the sound. Or get a friend to steer the when or rock the car whilst your at the front to help locate it. Normally if it has failed a MOT they should give you a good idea of what was the offending part as they cant just fail for a knock unless its in a safety critical location that they should highlight for you.

Do you mean these are going up in the end, if so it's sounds like they are not tightened up correctly.

i fixed the problem by changing rack and it stopped
