I want to solid mount a GoPro to my OMP MSA spec helmet, which would involve drilling a 6mm hole through the side of the helmet.
I only want to use the helmet cam for track days, not MSA racing as i know that any helmet cams are prohibited for MSA.

Would a drilled hole in the side of the helmet be allowed by MSA scrutineers?

Meaning no disrespect but you would never get me wearing a helmet that had a hole drilled in it by anyone but the manufacturer at the time of manufacture after it had been designed that way.

This. Don't do it. Mount the GoPro to the dash or cage or get a clip on mount for your skidlid - just don't get the drill out! :panic:

Not a chance in hell. They even fail some helmets because of stickers. Apparently the glue on the sticker can weaken the structure.

I use to paint helmets for a lot of lower level motorsports and the regulations were crazy and had to be followed. No chance in hell would I drill a helmet.

True story, we scrap loads of hard hats due to drillers putting stickers on them, even the chemicals in marker pens can weaken the plastic (apparently)

I used a stick on mount for my helmet, but as a few have said - even that's questionable.

Defo wouldn't be going anywhere near my lid with a drill though - baaaaad idea!!!

Seriously? As in, get in a crash and you'll end up with a skull mounted camera?

I read an article in MCN and lids will start coming with go pro mounts already moulded in the helmet. When they'll be available who knows.

I don't think you will find a MSA scrutineers at a track day, or at least I have never seen one. Test days on the other hand you will and they will not allow a helmet with such a DIY modification. Personally I would have to have anything potentially dangerous strapped to my head, just look at Michael Schumacher. There are good rollcage mounts out there, you can also mount were there passenger seat would normally if your after a more natural head height view. I quite like lower grill mount views too.
