Hi everyone. My first post here, although I've been reading the forum for a while :) I have a problem with my 1.1 desire. I bought the car without radio and the central locking wasn't working. I've noticed that the fuse responsible for those was 30 instead of 20. I bought a radio now and it powers on when the engine is off but there is no sound. Also when you turn the ignition on, the radio powers off and doesn't come back on until you switch the ignition back off.
I'm really missing some music in this car, so would be great if anyone could help. :)

I recorded a video to clearly show you what's going on. While doing that i've noticed that when you turn the radio on, the battery light on the dash lights up. I have checked the connections the ISO and they seem fine.

Check the connector on the alternator for signs of corrosion,if that's ok then pull the stereo out & double check you've connected it up correctly.

So I assume it's short. But where? Does anyone have any schematics where the cables go? Or any advice on where to start checking?

Grey Wires = Lives (one is permanent and one is switched)
Blue = Illumination
Black or Green/Yellow = Earth
My guess is you got the lives mixed up. You shouldn't mess with car electrics unless you know wha you're doing also buy yourself a decent multi meter and learn to use it

Even a screwdriver with a test probe light is handy,that's what's at the top of my toolbox.

Unplug the stereo,at least you've then cut down the risk of a fire.:y:

I was aware that it may cause fire, it's been unplugged ever since I tested it.
