Apparently despite having the original Windows instillation disc, genuine activation code and original receipt I can not transfer Windows from my old and very broken PC to my new PC. They want me to pay just shy of £180 for a new licence :fcuk:

What version of Windows?

Can't you just pop the installation disk in the new PC, enter the genuine key... install... job done?

If it fails for whatever reason just get AutoKMS :y:

My old PC had two HDD in. One with Windows 7 that I have the disc for. I tried just plugging the HDD in the new PC and it booted saying it was not activated. I tried to activate it but it just point blank refused. So I tried to reinstall with the CD and again it would not activate.

The other disc has Windows 10 on. I paid MS for a digital download of windows 8 when it first came out and then upgraded this to 10. Again tried swapping HDD over to new PC and it booted but again refused to activate.

It appears according to MS that my copies of windows are what they call OEM and can not be transferred :wall: I may have to try get a windows 8 disc and try install that as I paid for a retail licence on that.

If it was a pre installed version it's a a pain but can be got around with a quick google.

If it's the full install disc you can just crack on.

If it was OEM then that's correct. They are non transferable.

Just acquire a version of windows that may or may not be warm.

Because you bought a bus ticket once does not mean you get a free pass forever and after.

If your virus protection is up to date then it'll filter out & delete the trojan.:y:

I paid £15 for the latest osx, and windows is pestering me on a regular basis to upgrade my previous 8.1 free upgrade to windows 10, also free of charge. Not exactly an arm and a leg to prevent potential (likely) hassle.

I've never had a virus for years lol you must have been using the wrong sites lol

Because you say so, it must be true. Not sure why I would need to go on these sites when I purchased the legit stuff in the first place. It's always nice and dandy until you end up with a door stop.

After contacting MS support I have got well and truly pissed at them so tried installing Linux. It was oddly simple to do. I used OpenSuSE and it did all the setup work for me. Surprisingly it is noticeably faster for general browsing, email, office type work. My nephew has already installed Steam and is happily playing Left 4 Dead 2 on it. So far so good. I should have done this years ago :y:

Not at all ,but if people are too thick and end up getting a virus then it's their own fault.:y::drink::drink:

As above, I have the money to buy the real stuff. So I don't need your precious advice, you can give it to the guy who started the thread instead.

You get a virus and your computer becomes a doorstop? Good lord. I've been using torrents since they first came out and as long as you aren't an idiot and download then run just about anything they work fine. Perfect for getting legit copies of Windows to use your key with when MS make it difficult to download them in ISo format

As per usual you post a response, get quoted with legitimate info and brush it off as you're told you're being a dick.

Agreed with this. I have downloaded no end of ISO's for use with legitimate keys.

Well thanks ever so much for sharing your computer science, I'll make sure to engage my brains before I download something I purchased in the first place :y:
