View Full Version : Wheel skip on full lock

Ok here's a weird one I'm getting a bit of what feels like wheel skip/flat tyre in reverse and forwards at full lock. Tyres look good plenty of pressure, it's got new ball joints, new arms with poly front bushes and standard rears, new track rod ends, springs are more or less new as are the shocks too.
Tyres are 195/45 15s so shouldn't be scrubbing and I don't think they are, can't feel or see anything. If I back it off a bit from holding full lock on it stops and I can turn normally.
What's everyone reckon the next place to check is? Hoping it's not diff but yet to check CVs but they felt good last time I had a look (bare in mind this car hasn't really moved more than a few yards since all the parts were added and it felt fine then)

Not the CV joint? I remember you rebuilt them not that long ago, could just be shagged.

Only rebuilt the Inners but i am wondering if it's the outers, didn't notice any problem before and the car has done less than a mile lol.
I wonder if the diff could be shagged but then it'd do it in a straight line not just turning?

Pimped the tyres up all round as they were a bit low. Then jacked it up and checked the wheels for play in the hubs, ball joints etc didn't find anything unless I count an extremely minimal amount of play in the rack (barely any movement when wheel waggled against with steering lock on but more noticeable on near side compare to off side - to be expected on a nearly 17 year old car).

Can't determine if there isn any play in CVs but I don't think so? Couldn't feel any anyway.
Weird one, gonna whip the lower strut brace off see what that brings

Any evidence of anything rubbing?

Nope nothing yet I didn't then jack the suspension up to mimicking the weight of the car on the suspension that's next job at some point but I'm just relaxing at Xmas for a few days first I think

Not quite sure i understand your first post fully...but sounds like it could be diff related.

I probably should have worded it better but basically it feels like the wheels skip or the tyres are nearly flat when you have it on full lock at full or near full lock in reverse or first gear. quite a horrid grinding noise and feeling through the wheel when you do so too.
was just ruling out items listing the parts changed - probably going to have a look tomorrow at the car again

Nope but it doesn't seem as bad oddly after I took the lower brace off. Got bigger fish to fry at the mo however as rear of my offside sill has rotted through so getting that sorted soon.

I think i'm having the very same problem with mine.

Its a hard one to actually describe to someone - i initially thought it was something to do with the surface I was on at the time, but I think i've pretty much ruled that out.

I'm hoping its maybe just CV joint related, but my fear is that its gonna be diff related.

I'll probably chuck a set of driveshafts at it and see if that fixes the problem.

I been think the same with the one i'm driving at the moment, I was wondering if it was something to do with the EHPAS playing up?
