So yesterday while driving my car the Alternator caught alight. Luckily I got to it in time and dampened it out with my hoodie.

Fire brigade were still called and they said it was possible that oil must of sparked off of something setting alight the alternator.

Anyway, I've removed the old one now and its left very little damage other than the 2 wires that connect to the alternator being badly burnt (i've attached pictures).

Am I able to replace just these wires? or do i need to cut them out and re-wire it. or... does it need a new Loom.

Also are these the only 2 wires or has another been burnt away?

All I need before Christmas!

Okay so rewired it with new alternator same style etc. And still my battery does not charge :s can anyone tell me if you can bypass the starter motor and instead put a cable straight from the alternator to the positive terminal of the battery?

Also why does the alternator only have 1 big cable coming off of it and then the plug. Does it not need to ground?

Cheers Fred

i'd suggest checking further down the burnt out wires, you could still have a bad connection.
