Rotten rear arch

Hi people just after some help on what material to use. Drivers side rear arch has rotten away a bit so needs cutting out and a new piece welded in. What material (galv, ali, steel) do people use and what thickness? Any help would be great

any bit of steel sheet really, 1mm should be fine then protect the hell out of it
