I can't think of a more dumb/dangerous thing to do than jack it up on one wheel, start the engine then put it in gear and get the wheels spinning.
Do not do that, ever.

and why is that? I could think of worse - getting underneath it just on a jack would be more dangerous

^^^Whatever. Do not ever drive your car on jacks, like, ever? Rocket science?

Jack one or 2 wheels up, put in gear and get going, what could possibly go wrong...

Only if you are a total retard are you going to have a problem. As long as the car is secure and can't come off the stands it will be fine? With the rear wheel chocked. Letting it idle on Tick over won't hurt, old school way of removing lips on old discs when you bolt the disc on flipped and grind the lip back using the rotation of the wheel to keep it as circular as you can
