View Full Version : Top Mounts - standard and uprated

I have been doing some research and seemed to have drawn a blank on this matter, regards a suitable compromise. I track my car as often as I can and as such, I've found the standard top mounts to be a bit weak in that I am developing play in the nearside top mount after 3-4months.
My first question is is this something to expect from standard top mounts?
I have looked at the more competition spec items available from the likes of Kam Racing, but with the car also being a daily driver, and considering the state of our great countries roads, I am for-seeing worn rose joints galore if I was to fit them.
So my second question is, does anybody have any suggestions regards an up-rated product available on the market? Or am I going to have to lump changing the standard items out every time they start to wear?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

Theres peugeot sport ones but they cost a fair bit. What suspension are you running?
I would think if you are killing standard top mounts you will kill aftermarket ones too..
nearside top mount by any chance?

Whats the reasoning behind the nearside mount going before the offside one? Are we thinking along the lines of it taking more punishment on a track due to clockwise direction?
I'll be in the market for some top mounts in the near future to to run with bilsten group n's.
Still torn on whether to replace with standard items or go with the uprated ones. Had been looking at the KamRacing ones which seem like good value for money - do they come with bearings Kev or do they need bought separately?

I'd expect the roads to kill top mounts more than track use but if the car runs race tyres it may cause the problem.
The top mounts (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tuning/citroen/citroen-saxo/suspension/citroen-saxo-kam-racing-solid-top-mount-set.html?___SID=U) come with bearings.

Hi and yes it would be the nearside top mount that is suffering, as a result of only running the car at circuits with a clockwise direction(i.e. 99% of them).
My suspension set up at present: Bilstein B8 tarmac spec front damper inserts, Apex 50mm springs, polybushed wishbones, OMP upper and lower strut braces to tie up the front. On the rear I am on standard dampers with a 50mm adjustment on the rear beam and running 26mm torsion bars.
My choice of tyre on any and all of my track days throughout 2015 has been the Yokohama Advan A048r, medium compound in size 185/55r14.
I have frequented numerous track day events at my local Kart circuit in Wigan, which has varying and often aggressive surface changes from smooth to very coarse, at the point where I have obliterated the nearside front tyre after six 10 lap sessions.

Reading your spec, I'd say that and uprated top mount may help, but it's probably your weakest component with everything else being upgraded and the front being stiffened right up. You could upgrade them I guess, depends if the cost difference outweighs the inconvenience of renewing them more often.
