One morning I started up my citreon saxo 1.1 desire, I have no added extras. No after market exhaust or air filter kits, just a bog standard saxo. It started up making such a noise like it someone had just fitted me with a cherry bomb exhaust or something stupid like that, basically it was loud even while idle. I had a look found nothing that looked out of place or missing. I continued to drive as normal not losing power or anything to what i could of imagine of signs of anything to do with the exhaust. the oil looked okay and I struggled to see anything wrong, then one evening I started up drove up my road and then heard a loud BANG then my car just threw it self out of gear. I tried putting it back into gear and low revs to keep the car moving to a safe place to pull over , the car again threw it out of gear. I looked under the car and all i could see ( it was going dark at this time so it was hard to see anything) was which looked like a thick oil all over the driveshaft end , Im not a machaic so im not 100% of what everthing is in cars but I could only make out it looked like I had oil all over the place, Just hoping for some help in which the oil is coming from or what happened?
many thanks guys.

oil everywhere sounds like the cv joint on the driveshaft has burst open maybe the driveshaft has snapped if it made a bang.. hard to say without seeing it really

Inner cv boot gone, replacement kits available - see this (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454533) if you want to know how to change it.
Or renew the shaft, much easier to do that. Changing the near side driveshaft on a saxo will take all of half an hour max just remember to drain the box oil first

Okay, think Ill just renew the shaft if thats easier. Thanks for the help. :)

The driveshaft is most probably knackered anyway if its been making noises so definitely replace it. This doesn't really explain the car being loud when idling though I think that is most likely a different issue maybe the exhaust blowing somewhere. Make sure you get some new gearbox oil before you start if you are doing the job yourself.

check the condition of the driveshaft seal as well.

Yeah good shout there bud, you'd be crazy not to pop a new drive shaft seal in as they only pry out and are a few pounds to buy
