Hello all,

I've recently had a new drive shaft fitted which required a change of gearbox oil...I don't know if that has anything to do with it but when my car is cold it is a right bstard to get it into 1st gear and really clunks into 2nd. It is just 1st and 2nd that are a problem. Sometimes I have to put that much pressure on the gear stick putting it into 1st that I'm just waiting for it to snap in 2. Again it always clunks into 2nd gear aswell when cold. Once warmed up 10-15 mins into a drive it's all normal.

Are these normal signs that my gearbox is nearing the end of its life span considering it has done 100k or could it be a problem with the gearbox oil fluid(thinking maybe garage have put wrong stuff in)

It's a VTR box 03 100k

Cheers

That might be it, Peugeot recommend 75w, so it's a bit thick when cold

Will I have damaged my gearbox by using wrong oil for a few months?

It should be okay, I have a mixture of god knows what gearbox oils in my daily 1.1, it's been like that for a couple of years without issue. It's also stiff in sub zero temps and 'pops' into second similar to yours. Only takes a few minutes of driving to go back to normal though.

Like I said, been like that for 2 years, no issues, so I wouldn't worry

These boxes are pretty picky about their oil, if you want the box to last get a non EP 75w80 in it only around 2l of oil so cheap to change and one of the easiest boxes to swap the oil out on.
Sure you can run on it whatever kind of oil you can source as a temporary measure but if you want the box to last use the correct stuff. Total bv is what psa supply, I use a valvolene one these days of the same rating

Thanks for that John appreciate it.

You don't know where the sun roof drain pipe exits the car by any chance do you ? I have removed inner arch plastic and looked all around there but can't find anything...

You won't find it, it exits inside the shell which has its own drain hole for water
