Wishbone balljoint pinch bolt - Help!!

Hi Guys,

I have a Saxo VTR 2001 and recently changed the driveshaft. Everything was fine, except, i couldn't get the pinch bolt in. The "shaft" of the balljoint was in the way and I couldn't get it move for love nor money.

ATM i have a high tensile bolt in there just so the car can be driven, but it's not the rated bolt and i'm not happy leaving it that way. Has anyone got any advice on getting the little pin in so that you can still get the bolt in?

The shaft has a cut out for the bolt make sure it is in the right direction facing inward towards the car

Just slammed my head into the desk. I was certain it had a groove.

Thanks man, I'll check to make sure i'm not totally special this weekend when I do the other shaft.

Are you sure the shaft is with the slot the right way around so that the bolt goes trough it and locks it in place?

If you have a tapered punch & it's only a bit out you maybe able to use the punch to line it up without having to split it again to turn it.

Would think the balljoint is in just not secured by the bolt..

As said above the shaft on ball joint has a crescent shape in it to suit the bolt going through the pinch hole, make sure it is line up square so that the bolt can go in without any restriction or you will shrewd the threads off the bolt on the fist turn..

So the pin on the wishbone that pushes into the up right... has a cut out, it will go in anyway way you like, but you need to align the cut out so the bolt will fit through...

Once the pin is in, get a screw driver and look through the hole and simple wiggle it around until its flush, then wack in the bolt.

Just to clear it up, the pin is in but held in by a slightly smaller bolt.

I didn't get around to changed the driveshafts because someone plank that owed the car before my Mrs. stripped the thread out of the spark plug hole

Managed to get around doing this last night and it all went fine once I had the pin lined up correctly.

Quick question though, I haven't been able to get the fill plug off of the gearbox yet, didn't loose much oil when changing the shaft, is it OK to drive short distances until Wednesday (when I can spend some time getting the plug removed)
