Help my saxo keeps over heating, every time i move it 100 yards up the road red light comes on and water spurts from radiator. Checked head gasket thats fine been told its thermostat sticking or a blockage in hoses. Any ideas what it could be and how i can fix it? Thanks

Check the radiator see if one side is cold and one it hot, if not that rad is ok. Check the main coolant pipe coming out of the fine to see if that's still cold after you've used the car and the main coolant pipe leading into the engine is hot. Try a couple places on each pipe.
If you have been told it's the thermostat, replace it as it may be buggered and not opening, hence very quick overheating, as no coolant is travelling through the circuit.

Sounds like an airlock, did you bleed it correctly?

Thermostat is a ~5 minute job to take out and a new one is under a 10er from Eurocarparts/ halfrauds/ local motor factors.

could be cap not holding pressure as well

when it does this is there any pressure in hoses --if not --its your cap

If the cap couldn't hold
Would there be a sign of leaking from it fresh ?

Update:

Got another thermostat on and bleed pipes. Went for drive and after bout ten mines it sits at half way. Is that normal or still too hot?

yes half way is normal--glad its fixed--air locked is what it was
i was going by info --he said 100yards and it was chucking water out --no car would overheat in only 100yards + boil water from being filled up

Half way is normal. My 1.3 sits at the 3/4 mark most of the time and I've tried everything (bar putting a twin fan on it or an alloy rad) to solve it.

in this heat thats good. Mine sits just about 80 when cruising and its got a massive radiator in comparison.

best check the fans kick in too.

My old rallye (we're talking 10 years ago) the fan used to kick in all the time, on this one (same model, same engine) it only comes on when the water temp is in the red and the lights on. I keep meaning to wire it to a switch in the cabin.

From what you've said you've done and what people have said about it. Should be okay?? If your nervous take some coolant and water and be prepared to stop if the gauge spikes on the way to the garage.
I used to have an MR2 which wouldn't go more than 30 miles before it overheated. Carried 10 litres of water with me everywhere lol.
It was a wreck mind 😂😂

mid line in the summer is fine (the fan on mine used to kick in all the time in slow moving traffic), you will notice it goes just under that in winter.

probably a twin speed setup, they used to kick in slow at around 90, then go bezerk full whack at 105 or so!! it's usually the relays that die.
