Hi all so some of you may have seen my other post ref my non starter vtr 03 plate. Abit of an update I have just realised on the new loom the previous owner had installed only has one wire going to it (a brown/red) the other is a green wire. I'm a 100% that this would make a non start fault, would it not? And if it does can anyone tell me where this wire goes back to on the ecu plugs. Thanks you in advance, craig

I would hunt round the engine bay --think its probably wrong connector been put on crank sensor --maybe another same plug type with 2 wires on somewhere else -
1wire sounds like temp sensor or oil pressure switch connection--failing that get a wring diagram

How many wires should go to the crank sensor? 1 or 2

Thank you phaeton and I belive you are correct it has two wires form crank sensor I belive he has put the temp sensor on the crank sensor and the crank sensor on the temp sensor. Fingers crossed could have her running in under 5 mins if that's the case. Should have a green and white wires going to it I think.

I looked up injector circuit and most searches say it's a wiring problem due to low voltage.

Thanks ks stevo67 could I not just use power from another wire in the loom then

So gents fitted new injectors and fuel rail, no more codes in ecu and light now out, however the lumpyness still persists. It runs lumpy and no response from the throttle at all. After a short while it then dies, does this sound like a fuel issue? Car was sat for 8 mo the with a full tank of fuel I'm thinking dirty clogged fuel filter? Anyone have any other suggestion? Iv also tried another crank and map sensor still the same lumpy idle

Try some fresh fuel.

Well it was left for 8 months with a full tank in it I think it's gone bad? I did put 10 in just and still no good? Also changed the fuel filter today no change do you think it's the fuel then?

Fuel if left in a car for a long time breaks down.

welshpug

it'll be fine on that fuel, I've left cars far longer and they've run just fine.

So iv checked the fuel pump, all good I'm slowly running out of ideas. I'm changing the idle control valve tomorrow with a new one only cost me 14 quid ☺ could a lambda sensor cause this much trouble?

So iv changed the icv and it's still the same :( I mentioned that the guy before me changed the loom in the engine bay. Are all the looms the same regardless of engine size? I.e would a 1.1 and the vtr loom be the same?

Looms are different from year to year & to an extant on engine size/spec etc.

Phaeton
19th October 2016, 14:16
I'm not surprised a £14 ICV didn't cure your issues, I would be trying to borrow a known good one before hacking a loom about looking for a fault that might not be there

Gunny110
19th October 2016, 14:20
The symptoms are exactly the same from the new sensor to the old one

Thanks Stevo as I said I don't know what car that loom came out of and think that is the proplem

But would a faulty icv cause this much drama? Thought that just made the revs stick

stevo67
19th October 2016, 17:55
A faulty icv could cause a number of idling problems, including high revving and cutting out.Has the timing ever been played with ie someone remapped the original and played with the timing?

Gunny110
19th October 2016, 18:10
The timing is all OK as I took the covers off and checked. I was hoping someone already had this issue. Il try another icv off another car and see how I go

Icv's are different between the vtr & vts,the vts being longer(just for info)

OK bud, I'm just wondering because the guy before me cut the crank sensor plug off, after I have attached it again maybe the signal isn't that strong?
