Hello......neewbie here requesting urgent advice. I booked my saxo in for an mot this morning and was horrified to see, when starting to drive, that my speedo and rev counter were not working. Also the fuel gauge and mileage indicator were dead. Needless to say I had to cancel the mot. I notice that when I turn the lights on, the speedo and rev counter lights are flickering . The ecu light goes out when the engine is started. Has my power wash of the engine bay done this?
I have wd 40'd all sensors that I can see and also the ecu. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Quite possibly, you'd need to take the car for a reasonably long drive to dry it out,has it got lumpy idling? If not and it's a mk2 saxo try disconnecting the battery for 30mins to reset things. If still not working check connections behind the speedo.

Thanks stevo
Tried all your suggestions but no luck. The engine is idling perfectly, no lumpiness or hesitation. Maybe give it a few more dry out days before I start taking the dash apart

Might be obvious but have you checked through all the fuses Aswell? May have blown something if it got wet

Thanks ben.....I took out the fuses one by one and cleaned and wd 40'd them all. Still no luck. I am assuming its a wet contact somewhere because the dash light keeps flickering trying to stay alight when the lights are turned on. I've noticed another fuse box with larger fuses. What circuits do these run?

Make sure your battery terminals are clean & tight, also look at the earths make sure they are clean & tight.

All clean and tight with good earths.....still no fuel gauge...speedo...rev counter or milometer (which i need to mot the car) and the dash lights have stopped flickering now, instead I have total darkness at the dash when the lights are turned on.
