saxo 1.1 x rev hunting

I bought a 1.1 mk1 saxo yesterday i was driving along and all of a sudden it started hunting the revs where going up and down and know what the cause of this is

Usual culprits.

Air flow meter; clean it with brake/carb cleaner and refit.
Check vac hoses for leaks; fairy liquid and water can help.
Check for perished rubbers and gaskets around the inlet/TB.
