Paint help?? FAO bedford

I've recently been playing about with building log burners etc

Does anyone who knows their shit with paint.. bedford came to mind

know if you can get any gloss paint thats rated vht, as all I can find is around 300celc which to be honest is not hot enough

All the fancy car ones you can get only protect up to that max

I've only seen bedford on here a few times in the last month mate. Rarely on I think. Hopefully he sees this tho.

This is a bit of a complicated one, because log burners / stoves are cast they need a open grain to be able to expand and contract the one we have is a 8kw so gets red hot but heats the house for free. The only thing I can suggest is dirt busters stove and grate polish, it stinks it's not paint so won't crack or burn off it's literally a enamel powder suspended in a solvent/ alcohol.

If you have a old stove and want to to look new you need to get all the old coating off useing acetone and a grinder with a soft steel knot disk or loads of scotch disks then get it up to temp with bare metal. Let it cool then follow instructions.

Also if you want some gold detail on it you can get the stove up to temp then use a solid brass wire brush (hand or machine) whilst still hot and because of the heat the brass will actually transfer to the surface giving a gold finish that lasts forever.

And that's literally all I know, just don't use a paint or enamel or it will crack or flake,

You can go old school and use what my Gran calls pot and tine, basically anthracite coal dust and turpentine but it makes your house stink for months.

Great info, but the log burners I'm painting aren't cast. They're just mild steel

I've been using VHT paint which works, but you can only find matte colours, I can get gloss but the heat rating is shit

Paint won't work to the temps of stoves, give the stuff I listed above a try it should work may just take more coats and heat cycles, we tried loads of different paints when we made some gas bottle burners in the summer and it all flaked off.
